An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Goodbye & Hello
A tension-less transition to stress-free days
Where each tomorrow was another today
All-in-all a year of plenty and a year of less
A year where we all felt very blessed
Although excitement was far behind
We truly enjoyed this uninteresting time
Too much grey to ever forget the past
Those crazy, turmoil-filled moments we lived
When we watched our world take a dive
I want another uninteresting year
One filled with peace and love and plenty of cheer
No more curses for those I love
Just happy days blessed from above

Hindsight
They're to test how much we know
If we step up then we're all set
But if not, then we're not ready yet
It's interesting looking back
At all those tasks that changed our tack

Xmas haiku
More excitement building
Little souls are planning

Quick Xmas verse
White and cold are we
The merriest time is around the bend
We are now filling with glee!

Reflections of tomorrow
With only one true love?
Or do the heavens blaze
For those still awaiting us above?
No clamour from the persons
We've let go in the past
Understanding that tomorrow
Is really not meant to last
We've given up the east
To live with the setting sun
But in the end this is nothing
Except just a bit of fun

Looking for words
Leaving my thoughts grey and dead
Seemingly never to come back
I'm left stricken by the words that lack
Hopefully it will spark once more
As I don't want to close that door
Tuesday, December 10, 2013
Another hit
Brings me to tears
It evokes those thoughts
The ones no one else hears
It's been far too long
And I'm glad that it broke
As I've been longing for the magic
What's come before was a sad joke

Sizzle
Make sure to clear or things will rot
A nice slow simmer always works best
To blend in flavours and all the rest

Holiday Colours
Dazzling lights and diamond white
The festive colours are here at last
Enjoy them now as they'll go fast

Contemplation
In each and every day
Can really be a challenge
When kids just want to play
We do our best to follow
The narrow path we tread
But sometimes it just seems
Easier to give in to sin instead

Sigh
But unsettled feelings remain
A disgruntled form of separation
Emotions from us to drain
Monday, December 2, 2013
Older
Of not seeing through the dark
Waking up inspite of it
And hoping to leave our mark
Maybe one day will be different
But for now it all feels the same
Gone the days of exhilaration
Of being on top of every game

6am
The sun is hidden
The frost lies cold
A frozen world
Begins to thaw
And I get to watch it all

29.7
Of dedication to a cause
A steadfast work of ages
That makes all take pause
Now we salute a colleague
A friend and mentor too
Who saw us all just starting
And taught us what to do
We'll drink a cup to you tonight
And wish you well upon your way
A new beginning awaits right now
And we've come to mark the day
Thursday, November 28, 2013
What are you doing today?
When least you think it will
A small little deviation
Can really cause a thrill
But even when it all dies down
The truth remains the same
And reliving the events later
Is a often a very pleasant game

Fossil
And now you see the light again
Though ordinary in your time
You are a marvel to our generic eyes
A miracle of fossilization
Brought down to us through the years
A privilege to hold you in our hands
Knowing that with you
We close eons in our planet's history

Fly Away Together
Into a metal bird
Let's fly away together
To places of which we've heard
Let's form some splendid memories
While we've still got the chance
Let's enjoy the music entirely
While we're still at the dance
Wednesday, November 20, 2013
Try again
When after all, we came in peace
No apologies for this last outburst
But then again, it was not the first
We're sorry now, to have tried
Yet we now no longer have to hide

Communicating Adolesence
I've tried to get through to you
I held on to a belief that I would know
But I've realized now that it was silly
To assume that I'd be able to connect
When things have changes so greatly
But in the end you are still you
And one day you'll understand

Riddle
When faced with the future
It can be daunting when new
A twist of destiny that can resolve the past
But only if understanding that things cannot last
Friday, November 15, 2013
Gathering
For all of you coming over
We're happy to host you all
As it's been ever so long
But as the meats brown
And the vegetables steam
We must remember that
In all of our busy-ness
This is the first time we're gathering this year
And this really is a shame

Phases
Loving you in all your forms
Praying for this phase to pass
Knowing that such things
Likely will not last
Monday, November 11, 2013
Choices
Shall I purchase the red or blue?
Or what if I forgo the tried and true
And try something just altogether brand new?

A baby no-more, it makes us sigh
A young lady now standing here
Starting a new, exciting year
Saturday, November 9, 2013
Here and now
We've moved beyond what we hear
Now we accept that we're all together
Let's enjoy the the now, it won't last forever

Presence
Even if you do not care
I love that you're around
Creating all this beautiful sound
A world without your presence
Would lack an important essence
Thursday, November 7, 2013
Six today
We're so glad for what you are
A smiling soul to fill our days
With laughter, hugs and silly ways
Wednesday, November 6, 2013
Immortal? Really?
Heard of such a thing!
Wishing for forever
Has a caustic ring
No one should really
Want for more than this
Unless its for eternity
In a state of oneness bliss

Sick bunny
But inside she's hopping,
She's got no time to dwell
On upset tummies or feeling way too hot
She's got games to play, pictures to paint
And it's hard getting her to stop
Even just for a while so her body can heal
Forcing a nap is a really big deal!
Yes, it's hard getting a little one to slow down - even when they're sick!

Changes
in the blink of an eye
All we plan and do
is nothing more than try
We control nothing
although we believe we can
Since all is clearly fated
a part of a bigger plan

Halloween
A time of whispers and sometimes fear
When veils are thinnest we must beware
Since spirits walk the world without care
When a vacant soul is easily caught
With malevolence in a fiendish plot
But the good can also often break through
To mingle on earth with those they knew
But best of all for those who dare
Are the treats accorded to masks most fair

Skyward
To best the sky
We've found ways
To soar up, up high
No earth-bound life
For you or me
We've got the science
And now the technology
But with the freedom
Comes the cost
Can we afford to pay
For what we've lost?

Clouds
From way up high above
That's where we find assurance
Of a higher form of love
With the falling of brilliant light
On the cotton-y clumps of wisp
We can see heaven's reflection
Through the masses of gathered mist
Monday, October 28, 2013
Another week
With rain falling on the ground
Another Monday dawns
As we drag ourselves around
Thursday, October 24, 2013
@YVR
To find out if we fly
Just too much fun to be had
Watching the world go by
Now we get to the other side
A new world to be seen
We'll whet our palates for a while
In a land both lush and green
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
No wonder!
When the scales fall from your eyes
It's the dawn of understanding
Of the stress behind the sighs
Now we can move forward
And help our little bird
Knowing is half the battle
We want her voice to be heard

TIIIIRRREEED
Who steals into your soul
And robs you of your energy
Stopping you at your goal
No easy way to recover
When this thief works his lie
Except to accept the intrusion
Or curl up in bed and die

Epic
To lands of gluttony where the only rule
Is to mix together the most decadent gruel
A wasteful combo of fats and grease
To stuff our faces with more than we need
All to satisfy our first-world greed

Week's end
The next two days will be our time to rest and seek
All those delights we've held at bay
Since during the week, we've no time to play
Happy Friday! :)

Broke
But here we are falling behind
Our pocket books empty
Our vaults run dry
It's all our own fault
So we cannot cry
Wednesday, October 16, 2013
Seriously!
Why all this drama?
Why can't we just live?
There's no call for hysterics
No call at all for crises
We are all healthy
We all have good jobs
We all have homes
Be happy already
Be happy knowing
That life is not so serious

Watchers
When fee folk walked the earth
Were they the fallen, shining ones
Whose existence is now in doubt?
If so the stories are mixed
About who these being were
Yet, of one thing we are sure
Their lives were forfeit from the start
Friday, October 11, 2013
Inanity
Those who celebrate it
Are few and far
But when they shine
Their light is bright
As they mock us gently
But with sincere might
Thursday, October 10, 2013
Thanks
A splendid thing we do
But once a year is not enough
It should be all year through
As long as we have a chance
To express our gratitude
We will always live & love
With proper rectitude

Fog
Of mist hangs from the sky
A cloud brought down to earth
The only question: why?
To burn away in sunlight
To flee before the heat
Is a foggy signature
Making a hasty, fast retreat

Split personality
To everyone you meet?
The cheery, positive, happy one
Where everything is great
Or the moodier, stark, depressive one
Where you question everyone's fate?
Alas, the world knows but one
As it would never stand
To let the darkness out to play -
No point in giving it a hand

Good Idea
Unless into action it is brought
But how to pursue this errant dream
When I've had my chance, it would seem
Now on to other things am I
Yet, this idea, I'm sure would fly

Angry words
Chosen well and said with spite
They'll take on a life of gnawing
Right into your mind and deep into your soul
They can destroy you or make you whole

Autumnal hymn
It's that time of year again
When colours pop and nature
Does its best to out-do itself
Fall is here and the sun's still out
We're enjoying the world
The warmish, mid-autumn air
The slow turning of the year

Roasting beans
Your bitter sweet elixir in my cup
A tasty drink to ease the day
And get me going on my way

Virtuoso
But this time with a minor ring
A medley played with tiny hands
Evoking sounds of bigger bands
A crazy confluence of talent & stuff
The kind of which you never get enough

Whine wine
The world is better through wine
Only solutions then seem to shine
A happy conclusion for all involved
As tipsy problems are all duly solved

PSB Olympia
Hearts & limbs put to the test
We were given One More Chance
To partake in a Domino Dance
This west-end girl knows the score
It's a Sin to to close the door
Music is Always on My Mind
As within its depths, happiness is what I find.

From grace
We never knew which way to go
Until a host from heaven fell
And taught us things we now know so well
But from then on our lives were cursed
As in our nature, knowing awoke the worst

Watchers
For the lovely daughters of the human race
But the fallen were not what they seemed
Completely opposite of what women dreamed
Their violent offspring gigantic and mean
Uncouth, unprincipled and wholly unclean
No angelic nature to be revealed
A deadly coupling not easily repealed
A flood to rid the world of vice
A cautionary tale to always think twice

Apple picking haiku

Bursts forth a succulent orb
Of deliciousness

False Note
Your golden voice was once so fine
And I often reflect on that wistful time
When your lyric and song were both sublime
Now your verse is heavy and old
Your soaring falsetto distant and cold
Bring back that raw, emotion-filled age
When you were young and coming out of your cage
Friday, September 20, 2013
Reflecting on later
Once we accomplish what we set out to learn
We'll seek a return to our truest home
The place where angels and spirits dwell
The place we still know and love so well
Thursday, September 19, 2013
Love/Life
That is made up of you and even me?
The vibrations that echo from age to age
Witnessing lifetimes of happiness and rage?
From the ether we have come down
To learn to live or sink and drown
Now with the thought that we are love
We can return to our homes above
Wednesday, September 18, 2013
Blink of an eye
Wondering what happened to everyone
All too quickly you're now hard and soft
Already thinking of your own loft
Gone the days of hugs and cuddles
Of tickles, tantrums & jumping in puddles
Now its friends and girls and boys
The newest fashion & electronic toys
I wish, I wish, I wish again that I had spent
More time & love, and that I'd made a bigger dent

Drama at work
No one wants to make a sound
A little word to reveal the truth
Hoping things will reboot
Always tense when feelings hurt
But work is work, not a place to shirk

Breakfast, dress-up, school and fun
Friends and homework, then the day is done

Fateful match
An exchange of vows to make things right
But despite the beauty of your made-up face
Behind the veil and antique lace
Is something evil lurking behind
A corrupted soul & disturbed mind
What compelled you to give that push
Knowing below was just scrub and bush?

Comeuppance
Of everything you've loved
Is never really enough
When viewed strictly from above
Only if your life
Reflected what you got
Will you get a pass
Instead of being left to rot

Life dance
A fateful dance, our prowess to gauge
Finding our muse is easiest done
When we know the steps & refuse to run

Last days of summer
Droplets on the leaves
Rain spattering on gutters
And running from the eaves
A dreary, drizzly day
Fall is nearly here
Summer is retreating
And the weather is turning drear

Work
Than waste your time away
Frittering the daylight on nothing
With life in disarray
To toil productively
To work the whole day through
Gives greater satisfaction
Than idling with nothing to do

Morning voices
When all the world's asleep
That's when you hear the calling
Of all who've preceded you to the deep
That brilliant mysterious place
To which we all will go
When we've completed every lesson
And been taught all we came to know
But for now the far off voices
Are only those inside my head
Telling me to live with joy
As we'll all soon join the dead

Day dreamer
Sitting at your cluttered desk imagining islands, streams & fragrant leis
A panoply of beauty, where you play the leading role
A hero or a heroine where your deeds are true and bold
The wise healer of your thoughts is the desk jockey of the day
But helps soften the edges, as it's perpetually the month of May

Soul Web
Of a divine state of mind
A blink of an eye for a deity
A speck so very hard to find
And yet we're all entwined
In a never-ending web
Of truth and conscious souls
Seeking to lead & not be led

Grade One
A return to a familiar routine
But with new experiences and new faces too
Sometimes overwhelming in the extreme
So it is this year right now
A shock to a little mind
A wave goodbye to all things young
And hello to a more demanding grind

A bunch of wired idiots
With no thought of going back

Pathways
A gentle path to follow
But then I lost my way
And felt my soul get hollow
I'm doing my best to remember
Just how I found that way
But I've strayed so far that now
All paths look mostly grey

Didn't want to hear that
It's then so very hard to find
A quiet, resting spot
Away from all the rot
To fend of irrational fears
Can take too many years

Need you, want you, but in the end
Your caffeine kick is my foe
As you cause my body too much woe!

Fire in the Wood
Watch the sparks fly
Watch the fire flame out
Watch the ash darken the sky
We've managed the forests our way
We've squelched all natural burn
We've imposed what we want
We've forgotten that we must learn
The woods have their own language
The woods have their own life
The woods have their own reckoning
The woods have their own strife
Saturday, August 24, 2013
Careful what you say
Rip and shred or mend and heal
We take for granted what we say
In anger, pain or carelessness
Yet reflecting back on who we are
You realize that words
Can leave a bitter scar

Remembering tomorrow
Then waking up would be a dream
In many ways that's what we live
When looking around at what we give
This haze of thought in which we dwell
Is far from those golden shores above
Where each day is brighter than any summer
And the bluest sky is matched only by the river
From what people remember and mystics glimpse
We can surely understand
That we're here to learn about our souls
To accomplish our own very personal goals

Always make an evening shine
Knowing that you're surrounded by love
Is the biggest gift from up above
Sharing with those most dear
Makes the important things very clear

If even just in matters small
You can truly have it all

Orphan Girl
Knowing that you once had it all
But choosing always the meanest route
Dwelling within the refuse shute
Making choices you know will fail
Lying, cheating, hoping for bail
Your learning curve stunted now
Your life on earth a shattered vow
Yet through it all you're still loved
As long as you accept God above

A cruel slice of life exposed
Of brutality and inhumanity deposed
Nothing short of evil awaits

Almost there
Can weaken knees when done right
That assurance of youth
And the look of possibility
Seeing the emerging man
Beneath the untainted eyes and still smooth face
The bloom that lasts for just a while
Compelling, engaging and repulsive
Stubble-less and pink lipped
Taught muscles and firm skin
On the verge of maturity
Just almost committed
Nearly ready to be a dad
The future CEO
All just below the surface
Waiting to harden into a man
A delight for jaded eyes

Anticipation as each day unfolds

Morning
Awash in quiet glow
That's when the soul finds peace
With everything we know
No better understanding
Than what we see and feel
When gazing at the dew drops
Lit by sunlight's bands of steel
In the earliest morning hours
Before the world awakes
You can lose yourself in knowing
There can be no higher stakes

Learning lessons
Is all it takes to be heard
Just putting out what's on your mind
Is the easiest way of not living blind
We have to take and look and feel
But in the end, nothing seems real
An existential experiment
To learn just why we have been sent

Hopeful
And I always wonder why
But now I know the grief you felt
When words I used left a deep, red welt
I'm hoping that these days will pass
That the future will be just green, green, grass
With a relationship better built on trust
Instead of a broken thing all covered in rust
A healthy bond between parent and child
A sincere hope that you'll turn out mild

Having a child to further your mission

Phone groan
Unlocking a phone is no way to go
Too much trouble and too much worry
Over something not worth the hurry
Let's take our time to find the one
That will be a better bundle of fun
Angry
Gone the smiles and laughter too
Scowl and burn is all you do
Never happy anymore
And yet you keep on wanting more
It's getting hard to absorb it all
It's slowly building a dense wall

Summers Past
Gazing at the youth we see
Remembering hazy days gone past
Those crazy moments we thought would last
Now we relive every line
Of that lovely by-gone time
Through the young eyes near our hearts
Watching fondly all their starts
Knowing only that this too will fade
Leaving only an intangible shade
Monday, July 29, 2013
Eyes Open
At what I might turn out to be
And there I saw a shadow
Of a person just like me
A watery silhouette
Of potential coalescing
A smokey, hazy being
On the edge of slowly morphing
Today I looked again
And quite to my dismay
The shadow had solidified
Into a deeper shade of grey
Potential had seeped away
Into the apathy of youth
And with sudden understanding
I witnessed the naked truth

Cracker-jack!
A song, a dance, a whine
You voice a cracker-jack whirly-gig
Your spirit transcendent and sublime
Watching you skip along the path
A joy for all to see
As through your freedom we find our joy
A release from anxiety

Arthur Art
A twisted beauty with heaving bust
Blended well with a crimson tide
A saucy air, locks untamed and wild
Blushed cheeks, with challenging eyes
A gorgeous gal and a vaulted prize
No better mind for works of gold
Than that a master painter breaking the mold

All a remembrance and yet brand new
As waves of beauty wash over me
The colours of peace are all I see

High July
No bugs or bees are out to play
Only silly little tykes
On roller blades and shiny bikes
Helmets protecting smallish heads
Muscles working their way into beds
Where lambs will toss and turn and turn
To escape the blanket of Gaia's burn
Sunday, July 14, 2013
Quiet now
And it's tearing me apart
Not hearing its tunes of merriment
Fills sadness in my heart
Imagining this manic world
Without its thrilling voice
Is just too much to bear
But it's not up to me such choice

Away in the woods

Future and Past
Bearing down on me
This crazy unsettled feeling
Of what might come to be
A nasty, bitter thought
Of knowing that the past
Will be the only visions
That in my mind will last
A capsule of the world
Caught in time alone
Before the world went dark
And left me all forlorn

Train gang
Toss around your life
When you are just recovering
From calamity and strife?
In trust you left your house
Knowing friends have died
Hoping for the best
But dreading what's inside
Leaving all in faith
That you're all being watched
Trusting that your home
Would remain secure and latched
A runaway locomotive
Ruined all your dreams
And added to the injury is the insult
Of vandals ripping at the seams
Now let us pull together
And shatter those twisted youth
Who felt that such destruction
Was warranted and not uncouth

Wonderland
That creeps into your mind
And robs you of reality
The kind so hard to find
A dusty, overcoat of grey
That filters out the pain
Allowing only fantasy
Into your every game
No surprise that those around you
Feel wonder at the score
Hearing what you're living
Marveling that you want more

Not Fun Fact
It is kind of frightening
It is also infuriating
Because all was well for so long
Now all is hazy
The future a little crazy
It makes me kind of dizzy
That I'm facing this fear alone

Extra Special
Right into the heart of rhythm and rhyme
A two-toned beat to set the stage
Erasing aches, pain and age
Former punks came out to play
As a special band had their day
I'm not really sure why this didn't upload properly... here it is...

July 4th
The motto of the brave
With daring, strength and cunning
The nation that we have saved
But do we have the courage
To keep what we have gained
Or will partisanship destroy it
With pettiness and shame?
Those who used to rule us
Were idealists to the core
But now our vaulted leaders
For themselves want simply more
Maybe the tide will turn
And this land will again stand tall
Maybe we'll all realize
That it's together we rise or fall.
Stillness
Let the air flow.
Release your inner being,
And show the world your glow.
Wrap the silence in your fist
Embrace the morning chill
Accept the world we live in
And your soul will slowly still.

Another monthly bill
And the bill is oh-so-high!
The doctor says you need it
All we can do is sigh.
With every turn around the bend
With every step we make
The expenses seem to be piling up
While our pay stays at the same rate!
Tuesday, July 2, 2013
Eat! Eat!
When the face you hate, is the one God made
Can you turn the mind?
Find a better place?
And what do you do when that person's not you?
When the face you love, is the one you made
Can you help turn that mind?
Find a better place?

The Shore
Covering all the sand
The weeds and rocks are swept away
Leaving wet and soggy land
Just as the earth recovers
And the sand crabs start to peak
The ocean swells again
The waves are back to bash the meak
But through the constant pounding
The unending, senseless roar
The earth stands stoically silent
Always renewing its shore

He Shoots, He Scores!
Down, yes, but not yet licked
Across the field flies the ball
A powerful rush, a near fall
But leg and orb connect
And straight it flies into the net
A moment of shock before the scream
Now a reality, no longer a dream!
Monday, June 24, 2013
FIVE
No more books, no more school!
Life is good when you're five
No better time to feel alive
New experiences around every bend
New discoveries never seem to end
Enjoy it all now, my little star
Later on these days will seem far
Sunday, June 23, 2013
Salad days
The days for comfort have long past
Now we wonder and worry
Hoping our words have stuck fast
Be wary child of where you walk
And choose with care your friends
The future's only brightest
When you plan where the road ends
Saturday, June 22, 2013
Pitch Pain
Don't want to hear you again
A struggle within
That I can never win
Why let myself slide
I don't want to hide
So I'm not listening no more
I'm closing this door
Friday, June 21, 2013
Grade six grad
My young little butterfly
Your outspread wings are glowing
Your brilliant colours showing
Time to spread your joy around
Please don't remain here on the ground
Enjoy the freedom in your hand
And make of life something grand
Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Awash in music
The music that washes me in sin
The lyrics that inspire all that I imagine
And the voice that tells me I can win
Until I can look into your eyes
And keep from falling over
The notes will always sting
Imagining you with another lover
Monday, June 17, 2013
First goal
A victory against all stakes
A rush of joy from all around
A wall of cheers swelled from the ground
No better feeling for one to share
With all the souls gathered there
A common wish for our dear sons
A game of skill was finally won!
Saturday, June 15, 2013
Football
A field of green soft underfoot
Two criss crossed nets to stop the boot
A game of skill against your foes
With just a ball is how it goes
Friday, June 14, 2013
Good bye Otesh K
A wisp of wind soon erased from mind
Except for those whose lives we've touched
The family, friends and strangers rushed
While gathered 'round in silent prayer
We all give thanks that you were there
Wednesday, June 12, 2013
Starting point
Of not knowing what's around the corner
Of wondering what's near
But in the end when the door is unlocked
More often that not the world hasn't changed
The grass is still green and the sun isn't blocked
The only hold is the fear that was there
The thought of "can I do this?" or "Do I have what it takes?"
The greatest feat is to simply accept the dare.

Rain clouds
Of dreams being flushed under-ground
A cascade of tears to wash a face
Tired of smiling, of keeping pace
A nonchalant way of looking down
To hide the workings of a frown
Can you escape from this grey cell?
Yes, just believe in things ending well.

RS Jubilee
A jazz-hand drum to set the pace
A frenetic voice with limbs akimbo
Licks laid down with massive ego
Old and wrinkled, but lean and spry
There's still a glimmer in the jaded eye
50 years on not a note is wrong
For the heart of rock is alive and strong

We're learning now of all that we lack
A time of stress all around
A brand new love has just been found
But fears and worries are attaching now
As we must find ways of saying how
Thursday, June 6, 2013
Path correction
We have dodged the massive rain
We got off our comfy bike
And set off on that treacherous hike
Although the going is all uphill
The sun is shining still
We've found the tools we need
And the warnings we will heed

Parenting
We're trying, desperately, to find our way back
It's exactly, what we didn't want happening
It's terrifying, that it had to come to this
It's comforting, knowing we have a chance still
Tuesday, June 4, 2013
Track
See how well you can fly!
Sky's the limit, you will see
With wind and speed, you're set free!

Almost a teen
No matter what we share
Your reluctance to let us in
Is clearly normal, but isn't fair
We want to keep you safe
From the dangers we know
Yet your independence
Prevents us from doing so
We want you to stay focused
On what you need to do
We don't want distraction
To blight a future so new
So give us, please, your ear
And open up your heart
Know that we've got your back
We've had right from the start
Sunday, June 2, 2013
Reflections on a theme
I've got coins that shine
But not enough to make you mine
I've got notes crisp and new
But only very few
I wish this wheel spun slower
As it would mean we weren't older
Friday, May 31, 2013
Antagonist
Don't anger me, child
I've already experienced one very wild
My nerves are shot
And it's far too hot
For dealing with strive
So, please settle down to a quiet life
Thursday, May 30, 2013
Lost Words
You asked me how to bat your eyes
But I just turned away
You wanted to know about your heart
But I wouldn't give you the time of day
Now those moments seem far and grim
When viewed through layers of regret
I have only myself to blame
So I promise never to forget
Wednesday, May 29, 2013
Let's grow
Rain drowns the seedlings found
Just below the earth's muddy crust
As into life they are thrust
Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Done!
And it's finally dawned a new day
A page has now been turned
And we can reap what has been earned

96%
No one but myself to please
A link away from a higher calling
Nothing to do but keep from falling
Searching now for a bite to eat
Hanging carelessly from my feet
A carefree life from morn to night
Since genetics gave me a clouded sight
Sunday, May 26, 2013
No time
Finding time to clear my mind
Is never an easy thing to do
Too many hours spent running 'round
Means quiet moments are very few
Saturday, May 25, 2013
Egg shells
No quiet time for us
Always a mighty rush
Running past our strength
A peace shattered and bent
Our serenity disappeared
When we voiced what we feared
Friday, May 24, 2013
The troubling voice
For all of the pain and longing it brings
As crazy as this notion seems
It's a light through darkness that constantly gleams
No other voice has such power
To make me crave and make me shudder
A part of my soul that broke away
Ages ago through the millennial fray
Together once in lives long past
Knowing that forever does not last
But feeling the pull nonetheless
Speak softly through my distress
So the melody now cannot flow
For every note is a bittersweet blow

Alone?
Wednesday, May 22, 2013
Thanks
The sun will always shine
No matter that the days
Are filled with sour brine
Somewhere in the muck
That spark is burning through
Guiding me along
And helping me to renew

Away
We've come back to a familiar place
To get away from the infernal race
Kick back, unwind
And just renew
A time for rest
And nothing new
Thursday, May 16, 2013
New shoots
But please don't cry
We'll fix you right up
With this watery cup
A mound of dirt
Certainly won't hurt
And by summer's end
You'll be my friend

Anew
A yearning for something blue
A twist revealed by fate
Prodding you to heights anew
Tuesday, May 14, 2013
May maddness
When it seems so far from home
A cold hard fact to slam your face
Showing how far youth can roam
But when the drama's over
And the tides have ebbed away
Can we get over this
And return to our month of May?
Monday, May 13, 2013
Chill
The cold has come down
Now the leaves shiver and the blossoms hide
We all watch wistfully
As from inside we hide
Saturday, May 11, 2013
Innocence gone
The floor just fell away
When I heard what he had to say
Nothing suddenly made sense
Everything coloured by a twisted lens
All I ever thought I knew
Was no longer at all true
And now the hardest part
Is figuring out just where to start
Thursday, May 9, 2013
Gift
Can sometimes dispel the night
But in a different space
All it does is change the pace
Suddenly the seasons shift
And you see a random gift
Wednesday, May 8, 2013
Planting right
Fully wishing, I new how things grew
Thought I was doing the right thing
But it's been a very hot spring
Now it's back to square one
As everything seems undone
Tuesday, May 7, 2013
Stressful
The thoughts & emotions are much too real
The culmination of what I fear
Looms ever larger as the date draws near
A scare so violent that in the past
It was an issue dealt with fast
Now it seems that I'll have to face
The fact that I might not win this race
Monday, May 6, 2013
Don't speak
Don't talk to me tonight
Everything will start a fight
I'm on edge don't know why
So just look away
That's all I can say
Sunday, May 5, 2013
Summer call
A bit of air to jog the brain
Grass underfoot to ease the pain
Some earth and dirt to help with gain
And now some clouds for much needed rain
Friday, May 3, 2013
Waiting for results 2
Is being done now by a friend
Hoping that his waiting
Is finally at an end
Another week will see it
The stress of being on
Of setting goals and figures
Of praying you're not wrong
Thursday, May 2, 2013
Waiting for results
But the sting will last
Now the waiting has begun
Let's hope the time goes fast
No way to express the fear
Of waiting and waiting to hear
Let's hope it all goes well
I don't yet want to hear that bell

Karma
Kind words are never a crime
Say with grace what's on your mind
And very often what you'll find
Is that all you want in life
Will come to you without strife

Gardening
The ground is thawing now
The earth is breathing again
The sap is slowly flowing
And the gardener is anticipating
This the happiest time of year
Holds everything we hold most dear
Sunday, April 28, 2013
Music box
A little star in the dark of night
Your music lifts my spirit
Every time that I hear it
It hearkens back to a simpler time
When life was one big nursery rhyme
Saturday, April 27, 2013
Recital
You're about to drink from an ancient cup
Small feet getting set to twirl
A big, big dream for a little girl
We can't wait to see the show
To watch you shine, to watch you glow!

Phone perspectives
Is a voice that calls for aid
Depending on the day
It can range in scale and grade
It throws into perspective
The very sad and disturbing trend
That entitled men and women
Don't see how their lives can end
Thursday, April 25, 2013
Choices before
Living a harsher reality only from far
Thanking our blessings that we don't have to fear
Of living in dread and risking our tears
Maybe we couldn't bear to withstand
The rigors of having a bitter, mean hand
No matter the reason we're grateful we're spared
That we're loved and accepted even though we didn't dare
Wednesday, April 24, 2013
Story-teller
None did you know very well
But in the balance hung all that's dear
And without wits your end was near
So you wove your magic thread
To save hundreds from mortal dread
You became the kingdom's deliverer
With no more than a tongue dripping silver
Now your imagination's flights
Has endured more than a thousands-and-one-nights
Tuesday, April 23, 2013
Phone call
Let's call to shake up every thing
No harsher words than a frozen ring
We want to live without a care
But complete freedom we wouldn't dare
All guilt we have because we must
As in this life there's little trust
Monday, April 22, 2013
Sunday, April 21, 2013
To do list
No better feeling than getting it done
A short day's work to save a dime
All it took was a little time
Now the tasks are getting larger
But chances are we'll tackle them too
For after all, it's how we'll learn
The most that'll happen is we'll get burned
Saturday, April 20, 2013
Waiting Room
Just waiting to get in
Another hoop to jump
Let's hope that we win!
Friday, April 19, 2013
Mortal
The pills that makes the blood still run
The tonics to tone the muscles back
The elixirs that replace all that we lack
Inspite of it all we'll end up gone
As nothing on earth lasts too long
Thursday, April 18, 2013
Daughter
Your heading into that age, I guess
Where romance blooms and the world's alight
Where fireflies dance to set the night
Watch your step my pretty one
I know the world is lots of fun
But I watch and worry from afar
Knowing how young you are
And want only what's good and best
For you hold my heart in your breast
Wednesday, April 17, 2013
Swimming
When the thoughts you feel have begun to run
No knowing where these rivers flow
Except into that vast ocean down below
Waters through which we all must swim
Negotiating our way through every whim
Some sink, others struggle while some float
Others even find or build a boat
But in the end it all ends the same way
In a land more beautiful than our place of grey
Tuesday, April 16, 2013
April
No melody in the tune she sings
A cold, damp day today we share
Tomorrow we'll bake in the sun's hot glare
Snowflakes remind us of winter's chill
Then melt away as snowflakes will
Now we wait for warmer days
So we can bask in the summer haze
Monday, April 15, 2013
To home with love
To guard the nest in which they dwell
The birdlings call with tiny tweets
Receiving love and gifts and many sweets
As the songbird must travel, must spread his wings
And regale the masses as he sings
His job is such that he cannot stay
But he carries his home while he's away
Within his heart he's learned the tune
That rare refrain that only he can croon
It speaks to love and fidelity
Despite his whirlwind reality
But carry it well he does and must
As his happy home he leaves in trust

DW2013 #2
One man's dream encompassed it all
A fine example of imagination
Brought to life by inspiration
Now we all enjoy the memory
Of a brilliant mind's legacy

DWHS
With fun and joy we all win
No stopping progress, this is true
But the classic flicks are dyed in blue

Today
Today we had a lot of fun
Today the world was ours
If only for a few hours
And now we fall asleep
In memory the day to keep
Sunday, April 7, 2013
Tree of life
And marvelled at this land
Asking how the mind works
To guide the capable hand

The happiest place on earth
Let's make this week last
Thursday, April 4, 2013
It worked
The one who hardly speaks
Who accepts what's been given
Even if it reeks
Learning how to ask
Is really the very first move
Knowing when to speak
Will get you in the groove

Rainbow
To anyone who cares
To show your inner being
Let's wait and see who dares
So few can show or tell us
Of their brightly coloured soul
For fear of recrimination
For fear of being swallowed whole
Tuesday, April 2, 2013
Questing
Of an endless crowded square
Knowing that the details
Are often hard to share
Searching for the faces
Of those we thought we knew
Wondering now that they
Seem to be so few
Although we want to seek
The truth of history
We often close our eyes
To things we dare not see

Anticipation
Just three sleeps
How will we ever
Make it to Thursday?
Three sleeps
Just three sleeps
But it just drags on
And we have to wait.

New Day
The sun rises over this radiant dawn
Awakening us to an earth reborn
Calling us to praise anew
Reminding us of all we knew
We've got our lives because He cared
Facing pain and death when no one else cared
Friday, March 29, 2013
Quack
I long to believe your broken spiel
Your odd ideas a quaint throw back
When cures in general were a lot of hack
Indulge my whims of make believe
And I'll make your rich to be deceived

Night vision
My eyes don't see too much
A frustrating feel for me
When just trying hard to see
I guess I must accept
That overall it's a small debt
But certainly an overwhelming loss
When thinking of the cost

A hint of spring
Dripping, streaming, cleaving
The sparkle of snow fading
As the sun reclaims everything
Monday, March 25, 2013
Saturday, March 23, 2013
Suburban junlge
Stopped to graze in the aloe plant
While the brass turtle alongside
Did his best to sit still and hide
The fancy feather ostrich
Danced around trying to scratch an itch
As the crystal swarm of bees
Buzzed and flew just as they pleased
This is for my little one who was animating the knick-knacks on our coffee table...
Thursday, March 21, 2013
Coming
Forget the juggling and squirting flower
The days are shorter now in fact
And you should steel against the hour
A storm brewing on the horizon
Far away yet closer than you think
A sandstorm closing in from behind
Pushing us ever closer to the brink
So grab your sword, your bow and arrow
Your dusty, sacred vestments of old
And shake the cobwebs from their bower
To face the wrath with all the fold
Wednesday, March 20, 2013
START!!!!
We got you oil, tires and changed everything!
Now we're facing another costly bill
Because your decided to stop and stand still!
Yes, this is about our van.

Snow Again
The world awaits
The quiet of the spring
While nature sleeps
We must content
With the smallest joyful thing
Monday, March 18, 2013
Tough years
After all, it's harmony you're after
If you blink it'll be too late
You must not discourage open debate
Now's your chance to make your mark
Or end up shouting from in the dark
Saturday, March 16, 2013
Celebrate
Another year
Another birthday
Another fear
Growing older
And also wider
Growing slower
But not much wiser

No Red Boots
The stars have all aligned
Your hour of glory over
To your enemies all blind
Though you've crossed your rivers
And won the battles fought
Conquered hearts and lovers
And basked in all you've got
The tides were slowly turning
Though you were not aware
Your confidence assured you
That no one would ever dare
But those who you raised up
Would show their bitter hand
For stealing what they loved
For reshaping their natal land
Now the senate gathers
Beneath the vaulted arch
And now the knife edge gleams
On this fateful Ides of March
Thursday, March 14, 2013
Neigh-more!
As my iron hits the earth
Clods of grass and rock scream out
With a whip of my head
And a snort of happiness
I fly the freedom born to me
But as always I bear the shackles
That are fated to my breed
Saddled as I am, I must obey
Spurred on by heel and switch
But on my own I'd fly away
To roam the hills as I should
Tuesday, March 12, 2013
Tick tock
With flagging spirits sway
A question lost to the world
As every flag unfurls
Nothing to do but wait
And hope it was good bait

Ensure a runway clean and clear
While keeping an eye on all things dear

A little dew to draw your mate
A siren's song to set the mood
Before turning love into food
Friday, March 8, 2013
Silly rhyme grown-up time
To avoid a messy row
Put on the line
To later let your spirit shine
Find another track
To keep boredom off your back
And forget about the past
As none of this will last

Springtime!
Freeing themselves from their nascent gloom
Opening green in the growing light
Finding air to feed their bloom
Reaching up to seek and grow
Spreading out row by row
Never resting for a minute
To find their frail and approaching limit
Wednesday, March 6, 2013
Timeless
A savage hungry beast
That lusted after mice and men
And relished in each feast
Carving power through the years
And shoring up his strength
The monster's metal sharpened now
And cloaked by sugar and perfumed scent
Every where the mark is seen
A decaying, decrepit brand
That withers youth and all things pure
With a touch of it's ugly hand

ART
Stomp the beat carrying your feet
Spin through life with your melody
And bask in the glow of divine heat
Know the spark that lights us all
Gaze within and touch the start
Love those who gather all around
And feel the beauty of this immortal art
Monday, March 4, 2013
Late
And take me to the edge of day
Show me cares both great and small
And help all my thoughts to delay
I've grown up fast and complacent too
Wondering what the fuss was all about
Now I wish that I'd been more awake
And followed conviction without any doubts
But now I understand, I can finally see
Why all those words were spoken
And lectured over and over again
It was to stop this life from being broken

River
Here we are, swimming
Stroke by stroke we go
A shimmering river before us
A swirling darkness below
To move as best we can
From one point to the next
A flowing life of potential
Ours to choose what's best

Beyond
Although I'm fully enjoying this stay
When finally the sun does set
I hope to have reached the summit
And if anything, I know I'll find
A chance to rest and to unwind
A passage to another land
At once ephemeral and very grand

Pure cheese :p
We reached the hill
But we're not going over
Instead we're heading down
We've gathered friends
From everywhere
It's why we never wear a frown

On your marks!
When you know that no one is listening
At the end of day
No matter what we say
The fact remains the same:
We are not all playing a fair game.

Four lines long
The little ones always have the look
The face of love straight from a book
A beautiful expression of all that's new
Basking in the sincerity only known by few

Big bite
No bigger, better appetite than what you've already seen
A meager hand to feed you after all the terrors of being
Sunday, February 17, 2013
Looking ahead
We've tracked the storm and have been reborn
We know the score and we're waiting by the door
No news to great but we'll still celebrate
We've heard the call and we're finally on the ball

Dance dance
A VDay dance to lighten the mood
Music, wine and lots of good food
Friends and family all gathered around
Enjoying the evening and waves of sound

14 straight
Waiting for the comfort of a whispered cure
A moment in time clean and pure
A hug and wish for all that's best
With nothing ahead but a well-deserved rest

Minstrel
Check the tears that slowly shine
Clear the stars from the deepening sky
And answer me truthfully the greatest Why?
Is it to stand on one's two feet
A battle grand in mind to beat
A gauntlet run to learn the few
Those lessons that will make us new
Help us bridge the schism deep
That keeps us up and makes us weep
Sing to us softly of times gone by
When we were young and not prone to cry
Guide us through to the other end
So we can meet again, my friend
Your soothing song a lullaby
That heals our soul and answers Why.

Ha!
But then with words check that rise
Say the things you know will pierce
And keep me from breaking free
Then with smiles we pretend
And hope that things go on again

Bday Me
Another decade brand spanking new
Let's waltz together
Through the misting dew
We'll clear our heads
With cider and chance
As we spin together in this happy dance

Patience
Than it is right now?
To make the rounds go slower
Stretching from stern to bow?
Tell me to be patient
That I'll gladly do
Until the mighty forever
Comes shining through and through

SB28
Cheer as you will
We'll attack the swill
And talk through the score
Before heading out the door
No fancy spanx for us
We're amazed by the fuss
But enjoy the night
It's the big boys' fight!

Past pleasure
Enjoying the up only chords can bring
Falling into the past of notes swirled together
Of emotions felt when we were younger
Lovely days of bliss and pain
Wondering if and what and when
Knowing only what our friends said
Living life outside, not in our head

Recharge
Knowing with smiles there's much to gain
Hoping to find a safer spot
One that's cooler & not so hot
A flickering moment of cool respite
To recharge batteries & clear the sight

Stuck
A cutting word is all it takes
From there it's easy to make mistakes
Bruised and hurting we sit and stare
The silence an almighty dare
To talk is something very hard
It would mean letting down the guard

Shine
Of brilliance I have not
No answers have I got
But perseverance counts a lot
And all I have is what I've sought

Condo
Splash away
We've come to play
No more cares
We'll be caught unawares
But it won't matter
'Cause it's fun we're after

Tongue-tied in F
From Freddy's final frankfurter feast
So he fanned the flames lest they fizzled first
And left them flaming fast and fierce

Ahead
The light is here to stay
We've gone through this before
But we've forgotten yesterday
We know the way forward
And we've let go the past
We're full steam ahead
For the wind has caught our mast

90
Of nuance, nerves and nectar
A remembrance of golden summers
When youth was ours forever
A life lived today
But holding on to yesterday
Hoping to repay
All our sins before we're grey

Tweet world
Until we've had our fill
Then I'll turn you off
And my cap I'll doff
We'll meet again
My virtual friend!
Thursday, January 17, 2013
Forward!
As long we love everyone
Leave the past far behind
Press play, forget rewind

Jumble
You know I've got nothing to say
You stand there and I'm over here
And for some reason I fight with fear
We must have met back in the past
And now we're strangers, but the bond still lasts

Mmmm rhyme
To the mangy mongrel moguls
Who mangled her many mannequins
While making movie models
Again, this is for the kiddies as a lesson in alliteration.

No go
Just when you thought the wind
Would always fill your sails
A mighty calm settles down
It's something that never fails
Now the oars must come out
If we want to move
But it's never just enough
Until our strength we can prove

Daycare's over
Where a breathless whisper is too loud
And the falling dust is akin to a shout
In moment's now the silence will go
In a flurry of movement and sound
Of friendships lost and found
But for now we hang on to this
A beautiful minute of utter bliss

Question?
When will we feel the ease
Of the green being full?
Of knowing that our larders
Are overflowing and bountiful ?

Odd reflection haiku
Is like finding inner peace
Something very hard to do

Son
I love reading to you
Watching you live throught the words
I love enjoying the adventure with you
As we soak up different worlds
Saturday, January 5, 2013
Half way there
Already half way there
Never wondering if others care
A life of which others dream
Swimming easily in this collective stream
Friday, January 4, 2013
Thoughts
A daily dish with friends
Is the best of all ends
When contemplating what we're worth
It's best not to settle on our girth

20 minutes
Not for you, for me!
I'm primed
I'm heading for the lights
Looking for some serendipity

Butterfly
And White will cool you down
Green will still your soul
And Blue will make your whole
Black will shape the void
And Yellow will fill the sky
While Grey will bring the rain
And a Rainbow will erase the pain
