A poem a day to keep brain rot away

Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!

May 3rd, 2012

Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Songbird coo

Let me open up the door
To that pulsing golden core
Where music and love combine
Into melodies enchanting and sublime
Let me take you to that place
Where entwined we reach a state of grace
Under mesmerizing stars
We'll know the night as well and truly ours

Buried treasure

I watched the river flow
Around my naked feet
I felt my toes get cold
While enjoying the summer heat

Soon a ripple from the past
Emerged before our eyes
In a rainbow of shining brilliance
Very much to our surprise

A kaleidoscope of color
Brought haphazardly to the fore
A millennial trove of treasure
Of creatures from before

We filled our meager coffers
With all that we could find
And returned then to the river
Leaving happy thoughts behind

Committed

You've made your vow
You're committed now

A family man
With a bigger plan

The wheel has turned
All others are spurned

You've made your nest
And we wish you the best

Go West

The fields were yellow and green
Under skies of blue
The landscape was magnificent
Never-ending and brand new

A lush and fertile land
Where man could thrive and grow
A place filled with essentials
On display as if for show

But is this where we're called?
To settle and to sow?
In a pastoral kind of existence?
Leaving behind all we know?
