A poem a day to keep brain rot away

Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!

May 3rd, 2012

Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Goodbye & Hello

Goodbye to a year both dull and flat
A tension-less transition to stress-free days
Where each tomorrow was another today
All-in-all a year of plenty and a year of less
A year where we all felt very blessed
Although excitement was far behind
We truly enjoyed this uninteresting time

Too much grey to ever forget the past
Those crazy, turmoil-filled moments we lived
When we watched our world take a dive
I want another uninteresting year
One filled with peace and love and plenty of cheer
No more curses for those I love
Just happy days blessed from above

Hello all (if any),

Through this holiday season, I've take a break as I was tapped out creatively. I'm hoping to recharge sufficiently to start the new year off on the right foot. I don't mind writing bad poetry - but I draw the line at terrible poetry.

Thanks for reading!

Hindsight

Challenges all come and go
They're to test how much we know
If we step up then we're all set
But if not, then we're not ready yet
It's interesting looking back
At all those tasks that changed our tack

Xmas haiku

Another sleep closer yet
More excitement building
Little souls are planning

Quick Xmas verse

Crystals cover everything
White and cold are we
The merriest time is around the bend
We are now filling with glee!

Reflections of tomorrow

Can the soul be satisfied
With only one true love?
Or do the heavens blaze
For those still awaiting us above?
No clamour from the persons
We've let go in the past
Understanding that tomorrow
Is really not meant to last
We've given up the east
To live with the setting sun
But in the end this is nothing
Except just a bit of fun

Looking for words

All my inspiration has fled
Leaving my thoughts grey and dead
Seemingly never to come back
I'm left stricken by the words that lack
Hopefully it will spark once more
As I don't want to close that door

Another hit

The beauty in your voice
Brings me to tears
It evokes those thoughts
The ones no one else hears
It's been far too long
And I'm glad that it broke
As I've been longing for the magic
What's come before was a sad joke

Sizzle

Let out the steam, it's getting hot
Make sure to clear or things will rot
A nice slow simmer always works best
To blend in flavours and all the rest

Holiday Colours

Tinkling reds and sparkling greens
Dazzling lights and diamond white
The festive colours are here at last
Enjoy them now as they'll go fast

Contemplation

Trying to find the peace
In each and every day
Can really be a challenge
When kids just want to play

We do our best to follow
The narrow path we tread
But sometimes it just seems
Easier to give in to sin instead

Sigh

A new day dawns for all of us
But unsettled feelings remain
A disgruntled form of separation
Emotions from us to drain

Older

Another day of nothingness
Of not seeing through the dark
Waking up inspite of it
And hoping to leave our mark
Maybe one day will be different
But for now it all feels the same
Gone the days of exhilaration
Of being on top of every game

6am

Early morning, just 6am
The sun is hidden
The frost lies cold
A frozen world
Begins to thaw
And I get to watch it all
