A poem a day to keep brain rot away

Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!

May 3rd, 2012

Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Name

Your name ties me to you
In ways you cannot know
A sweeping fuzzy feeling
That leaves me all aglow

An assurance of the past
Of what you meant to me
A solid, comforting rock
An escape to history

I'm sure of just one thing
That despite my age and time
Your name will always soothe
With no reason, just lovely rhyme

Still Singing

Left and back again
A slowly burning pain
Desire that smolders away
Intensifying with the grey

Hearing of a stolen glance
Of a once-in-a-lifetime chance
Knowing it's just a fantasy
Daydreams that set you free

Despite the years gone by
These thoughts still wrench a sigh
Of what could never be
As fancy can't do reality

Autumnal hymn

Yellow leaves are raining down
It's that time of year again
When colours pop and nature
Does its best to out-do itself

Fall is here and the sun's still out
We're enjoying the world
The warmish, mid-autumn air
The slow turning of the year

Morning

When all the world is still
Awash in quiet glow
That's when the soul finds peace
With everything we know

No better understanding
Than what we see and feel
When gazing at the dew drops
Lit by sunlight's bands of steel

In the earliest morning hours
Before the world awakes
You can lose yourself in knowing
There can be no higher stakes

Lake rhyme

A peaceful view
With nothing to do
Is nothing new
But still true blue

Musical door

When I fall into that familiar sphere
All the world becomes crystal clear
A brand new way of seeing through
All a remembrance and yet brand new
As waves of beauty wash over me
The colours of peace are all I see

Grade six grad

Fly away so high
My young little butterfly
Your outspread wings are glowing
Your brilliant colours showing
Time to spread your joy around
Please don't remain here on the ground
Enjoy the freedom in your hand
And make of life something grand

Inspire us!

What happens when inspiration's gone?
When the singer forgets the song?
When the artist's brush won't flow?
When the seedlings refuse to grow?
It's a gift to find a muse
Channeling ideas for us to use
Even if they don't know the score
They for us open every door
Just knowing that they're around
Means inspiration will be found.

Lost in colours

Bursts of gold and red and green
Beautiful rainbows from the palate gleam
Born to weave a tale
Through pictures bold and frail
Together a medley of harmony
A veritable visual symphony
Let me get lost in the magnificent hues
Those striking works of your muse
