An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Summers Past
The summer's here and so are we
Gazing at the youth we see
Remembering hazy days gone past
Those crazy moments we thought would last
Now we relive every line
Of that lovely by-gone time
Through the young eyes near our hearts
Watching fondly all their starts
Knowing only that this too will fade
Leaving only an intangible shade
Gazing at the youth we see
Remembering hazy days gone past
Those crazy moments we thought would last
Now we relive every line
Of that lovely by-gone time
Through the young eyes near our hearts
Watching fondly all their starts
Knowing only that this too will fade
Leaving only an intangible shade

Eyes Open
Long ago I looked
At what I might turn out to be
And there I saw a shadow
Of a person just like me
A watery silhouette
Of potential coalescing
A smokey, hazy being
On the edge of slowly morphing
Today I looked again
And quite to my dismay
The shadow had solidified
Into a deeper shade of grey
Potential had seeped away
Into the apathy of youth
And with sudden understanding
I witnessed the naked truth
At what I might turn out to be
And there I saw a shadow
Of a person just like me
A watery silhouette
Of potential coalescing
A smokey, hazy being
On the edge of slowly morphing
Today I looked again
And quite to my dismay
The shadow had solidified
Into a deeper shade of grey
Potential had seeped away
Into the apathy of youth
And with sudden understanding
I witnessed the naked truth

Cracker-jack!
I love the way you make me laugh
A song, a dance, a whine
You voice a cracker-jack whirly-gig
Your spirit transcendent and sublime
Watching you skip along the path
A joy for all to see
As through your freedom we find our joy
A release from anxiety
A song, a dance, a whine
You voice a cracker-jack whirly-gig
Your spirit transcendent and sublime
Watching you skip along the path
A joy for all to see
As through your freedom we find our joy
A release from anxiety

Arthur Art
A stroke of genius flowing from your brush
A twisted beauty with heaving bust
Blended well with a crimson tide
A saucy air, locks untamed and wild
Blushed cheeks, with challenging eyes
A gorgeous gal and a vaulted prize
No better mind for works of gold
Than that a master painter breaking the mold
A twisted beauty with heaving bust
Blended well with a crimson tide
A saucy air, locks untamed and wild
Blushed cheeks, with challenging eyes
A gorgeous gal and a vaulted prize
No better mind for works of gold
Than that a master painter breaking the mold

Fun Rhyme!
A game of words is what it is
A fun way to pass the time
Looking at life and figuring it out
Is worth more than a dime
A fun way to pass the time
Looking at life and figuring it out
Is worth more than a dime

Cabin Fever
Despite the warmth coming in
The days are growing long
Confined together this way
We fight to remain strong
With habits grating on nerves
The volume tends to rise
As we find ways to endure
Our many varied cries
The days are growing long
Confined together this way
We fight to remain strong
With habits grating on nerves
The volume tends to rise
As we find ways to endure
Our many varied cries

Testify
Stony cold and grey are we
When called to testify
We have our thoughts about the world
A fount that won't run dry
But through it all we twist and shake
When the road is rough
Yet in the end we should realize
That our best is more than enough
When called to testify
We have our thoughts about the world
A fount that won't run dry
But through it all we twist and shake
When the road is rough
Yet in the end we should realize
That our best is more than enough

External heart
Come close to me my little heart
And beat inside my hand
As you once did inside of me
Which was so very grand
Now you're part of this bigger world
And we just tag along
To shelter you from showers and rain
So you can see & live no wrong
And beat inside my hand
As you once did inside of me
Which was so very grand
Now you're part of this bigger world
And we just tag along
To shelter you from showers and rain
So you can see & live no wrong

Heart & mind
I've never understood
The workings of the mind
When the heart overrules
The logical results you find
Now I understand the benefit
Of listening to your head
Of not giving everything over
To flowery words that are said

Knee high walk
Blissfully unaware
The toddler walks along
Looking for excitement
The toddler walks along
Looking for excitement

Musical door
When I fall into that familiar sphere
All the world becomes crystal clear
A brand new way of seeing through
All a remembrance and yet brand new
As waves of beauty wash over me
The colours of peace are all I see
All the world becomes crystal clear
A brand new way of seeing through
All a remembrance and yet brand new
As waves of beauty wash over me
The colours of peace are all I see

High July
A hot and muggy summer's day
No bugs or bees are out to play
Only silly little tykes
On roller blades and shiny bikes
Helmets protecting smallish heads
Muscles working their way into beds
Where lambs will toss and turn and turn
To escape the blanket of Gaia's burn
No bugs or bees are out to play
Only silly little tykes
On roller blades and shiny bikes
Helmets protecting smallish heads
Muscles working their way into beds
Where lambs will toss and turn and turn
To escape the blanket of Gaia's burn

Quiet now
My songbird has been silent
And it's tearing me apart
Not hearing its tunes of merriment
Fills sadness in my heart
Imagining this manic world
Without its thrilling voice
Is just too much to bear
But it's not up to me such choice
And it's tearing me apart
Not hearing its tunes of merriment
Fills sadness in my heart
Imagining this manic world
Without its thrilling voice
Is just too much to bear
But it's not up to me such choice

Away in the woods
A little cabin in the woods
Is where I like to be
To soak in the silence of the world
All peace and tranquility
A quiet nook in which
To sit and meditate
Away from all the bustle
In a calm and soothing state

Future and Past
I've never felt this weight
Bearing down on me
This crazy unsettled feeling
Of what might come to be
A nasty, bitter thought
Of knowing that the past
Will be the only visions
That in my mind will last
A capsule of the world
Caught in time alone
Before the world went dark
And left me all forlorn
Bearing down on me
This crazy unsettled feeling
Of what might come to be
A nasty, bitter thought
Of knowing that the past
Will be the only visions
That in my mind will last
A capsule of the world
Caught in time alone
Before the world went dark
And left me all forlorn

Train gang
How can a stranger
Toss around your life
When you are just recovering
From calamity and strife?
In trust you left your house
Knowing friends have died
Hoping for the best
But dreading what's inside
Leaving all in faith
That you're all being watched
Trusting that your home
Would remain secure and latched
A runaway locomotive
Ruined all your dreams
And added to the injury is the insult
Of vandals ripping at the seams
Now let us pull together
And shatter those twisted youth
Who felt that such destruction
Was warranted and not uncouth
Toss around your life
When you are just recovering
From calamity and strife?
In trust you left your house
Knowing friends have died
Hoping for the best
But dreading what's inside
Leaving all in faith

Wonderland
Delusion is a stranger
That creeps into your mind
And robs you of reality
The kind so hard to find
A dusty, overcoat of grey
That filters out the pain
Allowing only fantasy
Into your every game
No surprise that those around you
Feel wonder at the score
Hearing what you're living
Marveling that you want more
That creeps into your mind
And robs you of reality
The kind so hard to find
A dusty, overcoat of grey
That filters out the pain
Allowing only fantasy
Into your every game
No surprise that those around you
Feel wonder at the score
Hearing what you're living
Marveling that you want more

Not Fun Fact
My eye sight is failing
It is kind of frightening
It is also infuriating
Because all was well for so long
Now all is hazy
The future a little crazy
It makes me kind of dizzy
That I'm facing this fear alone
It is kind of frightening
It is also infuriating
Because all was well for so long
Now all is hazy
The future a little crazy
It makes me kind of dizzy
That I'm facing this fear alone

Extra Special
We skanked our way back in time
Right into the heart of rhythm and rhyme
A two-toned beat to set the stage
Erasing aches, pain and age
Former punks came out to play
As a special band had their day
I'm not really sure why this didn't upload properly... here it is...

Stars & Stripes Forever
The motto of the brave
With daring, strength and cunning
The nation that we have saved
But do we have the courage
To keep what we have gained
Or will partisanship destroy it
With pettiness and shame?
Those who used to rule us
Were idealists to the core
But now our vaulted leaders
For themselves want simply more
Maybe the tide will turn
And this land will again stand tall
Maybe we'll all realize
That it's together we rise or fall.

Stillness
Breathe.
Let the air flow.
Release your inner being,
And show the world your glow.
Wrap the silence in your fist
Embrace the morning chill
Accept the world we live in
And your soul will slowly still.
Let the air flow.
Release your inner being,
And show the world your glow.
Wrap the silence in your fist
Embrace the morning chill
Accept the world we live in
And your soul will slowly still.

Another monthly bill
And now your teeth are crooked
And the bill is oh-so-high!
The doctor says you need it
All we can do is sigh.
With every turn around the bend
With every step we make
The expenses seem to be piling up
While our pay stays at the same rate!
And the bill is oh-so-high!
The doctor says you need it
All we can do is sigh.
With every turn around the bend
With every step we make
The expenses seem to be piling up
While our pay stays at the same rate!

Eat! Eat!
What do you do when the enemy stares back at you?
When the face you hate, is the one God made
Can you turn the mind?
Find a better place?
And what do you do when that person's not you?
When the face you love, is the one you made
Can you help turn that mind?
Find a better place?
When the face you hate, is the one God made
Can you turn the mind?
Find a better place?
And what do you do when that person's not you?
When the face you love, is the one you made
Can you help turn that mind?
Find a better place?
