I saw a name today
That truly made me start
A singsong sound to it
That felt like living art
A call to years gone by
Disappearing in a trice
A haunting memory
Of an internal, burning vice
Left along the way
The knowledge of this lust
Wiser now than then
Understanding we all return to dust
An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Rushing forward
Life is changing quickly
No longer what it was
A maelstrom of emotion
Cascading with a buzz
Weeping all alone
For all that's yet to come
Knowing we're moving forward
With nowhere left to run
Gently now my angel
Let's not lose our way
We're more than half way there
So let's embrace this grey
No longer what it was
A maelstrom of emotion
Cascading with a buzz
Weeping all alone
For all that's yet to come
Knowing we're moving forward
With nowhere left to run
Gently now my angel
Let's not lose our way
We're more than half way there
So let's embrace this grey

Dirty Dancing
The image flickered on the screen
Of dancers entwined in a sultry scene
When music set the Bacchanal mood
And the innocent believed in their cozy brood
It was a summer so long ago
When hearts were young and our souls aglow
We plunged right in, we knew the score
We wanted the fantasy and so much more
We understood that time had past
But trusted still that the joy would last
It was a summer so long ago
When hearts were young and our souls aglow
A bittersweet triumph of old and young
Learning the words to songs unsung
Understanding that from now on
The world was waking to a brand new dawn
It was a summer so long ago
When hearts were young, and our souls aglow
And now years away from that misty age
The music still rattles the sleepers cage
Calling out to the ghosts gone by
Bringing laughter, joy & and sad, sweet sigh.

Spring
Hopeful now and optimistic too
All because the light is returning to you
The darkness is receding, fading fast into the night
Constant prayers will now keep that void from sight
Spring is another consolation to our aching souls
For the sunshine and the rain can fill any hole
All because the light is returning to you
The darkness is receding, fading fast into the night
Constant prayers will now keep that void from sight
Spring is another consolation to our aching souls
For the sunshine and the rain can fill any hole

Moving forward
Days of calm have returned
But the scars are still fresh from the burn
It's a new way of looking now at our life
One where we mitigate and manage strife
Although the line has slacked a bit
We're now vigilant lest we again get hit
I know I've been rather slack with posting recently. We've been managing a lot of stress and some life-altering situations. Things are starting to return to a more normal pace and hopefully I'll be able to pick up again where I left off.

Facetime
Don't talk to me of yesterday, I don't want anyone to know
Or remember what I felt that day, as it wasn't meant to show
I'm growing up in little bits, I finding my own voice
But I haven't figured out just yet, to confront my choice
I will get it you will see, in time, I just need some space
And then I'll be able to look everyone in their face
Or remember what I felt that day, as it wasn't meant to show
I'm growing up in little bits, I finding my own voice
But I haven't figured out just yet, to confront my choice
I will get it you will see, in time, I just need some space
And then I'll be able to look everyone in their face

Sick bunny
Bunny is sick, she's not feeling well
But inside she's hopping,
She's got no time to dwell
On upset tummies or feeling way too hot
She's got games to play, pictures to paint
And it's hard getting her to stop
Even just for a while so her body can heal
Forcing a nap is a really big deal!
Yes, it's hard getting a little one to slow down - even when they're sick!

Blink of an eye
Watching old videos of when you were young
Wondering what happened to everyone
All too quickly you're now hard and soft
Already thinking of your own loft
Gone the days of hugs and cuddles
Of tickles, tantrums & jumping in puddles
Now its friends and girls and boys
The newest fashion & electronic toys
I wish, I wish, I wish again that I had spent
More time & love, and that I'd made a bigger dent

Grade six grad
Fly away so high
My young little butterfly
Your outspread wings are glowing
Your brilliant colours showing
Time to spread your joy around
Please don't remain here on the ground
Enjoy the freedom in your hand
And make of life something grand

Changes
Chillin' - just where we ought to be
Knowin' - things have shifted very subtley
Changin' - not always something bad
Acceptin' - the future's tentatively glad
