"Knock, knock!" said the cuckoo
The mouse said "beware"
There's a brand new blue bird
Sitting over there
"So what?" asked the possum
Hanging from high in the tree
There's always some danger
Surrounding me
"Nevermind" chimed the squirrel
From inside his cozy lair
No one is untouchable
So live each day with care
An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Moving forward
Days of calm have returned
But the scars are still fresh from the burn
It's a new way of looking now at our life
One where we mitigate and manage strife
Although the line has slacked a bit
We're now vigilant lest we again get hit
I know I've been rather slack with posting recently. We've been managing a lot of stress and some life-altering situations. Things are starting to return to a more normal pace and hopefully I'll be able to pick up again where I left off.

Hope
A need to break free
To understand what's outside of me
A need to escape far from here
Where there's no shame or even fear
A need to embrace all that's right
To seek refuge in the divine light
To understand what's outside of me
A need to escape far from here
Where there's no shame or even fear
A need to embrace all that's right
To seek refuge in the divine light

May you be born in interesting times
Yes, we are living under a curse
Since every single day
Our conditions seem to be getting worse
A fast-moving train heading straight for a wall
With greed and apathy fueling it all
Since every single day
Our conditions seem to be getting worse
A fast-moving train heading straight for a wall
With greed and apathy fueling it all

Tree
You plant a seed and watch it grow
Watering it in sun and snow
As the young shoot begins to reach
Up into the sky, you want to teach
To train the seedling the best you can
Passing on knowledge of fellow man
But in this age of uncertain unrest
The plant will pass through a severe test
Must endure the drought, cold and frost
While you pray that it won't uproot & get lost
For you can see that far down the line
The mighty tree that can easily shine
As long as the sapling can stand tall
And not bend to whims of one and all
Watering it in sun and snow
As the young shoot begins to reach
Up into the sky, you want to teach
To train the seedling the best you can
Passing on knowledge of fellow man
But in this age of uncertain unrest
The plant will pass through a severe test
Must endure the drought, cold and frost
While you pray that it won't uproot & get lost
For you can see that far down the line

As long as the sapling can stand tall
And not bend to whims of one and all

Heartache
I'm tugging at the seams
Trying to keep it all together
Why couldn't the problems be
Those I was prepared for?
Boys and drugs and music too
But no, it's something all brand new
No road map here to help us out
We're in the dark wondering what it's all about
Trying to keep it all together
Why couldn't the problems be
Those I was prepared for?
Boys and drugs and music too
But no, it's something all brand new
No road map here to help us out
We're in the dark wondering what it's all about

Teen Life
Sitting on a seesaw of emotional distress
Wondering if the day will bring release or stress
Riding high the world is bright, all shining sun and joy
But the bottom is filled with darkness, a soul-less blackened void
To find the equilibrium, the middle point of mind
Is this life's great journey, a path that's hard to find

Centre Stage
I'm counting down the days
Until our spirits collide
Through a crowded space
With no place to hide
A throng of worshipers
Come to raise the roof
Listening to your voice
No greater spiritual proof

With no place to hide
A throng of worshipers
Come to raise the roof
Listening to your voice
No greater spiritual proof
