A poem a day to keep brain rot away

Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!

May 3rd, 2012

Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Tour 2014

My songbird sings to sweetly
But his voice is growing rough
As we all grow in age
The business is getting tough
We'll see him again very soon
A treat worth waiting for
But five years down the line
I'm no longer hanging outside the door

Sochi 2014 ending soon

Twisting around to see your face
Now I know why we run this race
A golden moment to live forever
Shattered so suddenly on the slightest error
But we will gather yet one more time
To let the world see us shine
Until that day comes along
We must work to perfect our song

Short post

The calm has come
As we hoped it would
A longer period
For the common good

Kids

Why does it have to come to this
When it can be so easy?
Resisting our every gesture
Makes me feel so queasy

Although we all share this home
We have no common thread
We feel like we're just servants here
Just here to serve your needs instead.

Sochi 2014

Let's give it all we've got
This is our defining shot
A chance to shine like never before
We've set the stage, they've opened the door
Now to burst out from our groove
A drive to succeed, a need to prove

HBDay

Today I saw the light
So many years ago
And despite my failing sight
I've still got far to go

I'm grateful for this chance
Of crashing this crazy place
Meeting new partners in each dance
Of just enjoying this win-win race

Aging

I've often run the gamut
From euphoria to despair
But now I've found a balance
That's so much easier to bear

Now I know the joy
Of leaving all behind
And the contentment of inner peace
Where happiness is easier to find
