Light filters down
And in it we all drown
We soak every drop in
Knowing with it we all win

An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Future sight
When I lay down to sleep at night
I think about my failing sight
And wonder what will come of me
Should it fail completely
But then I pull myself in check
And remind myself that I am but a speck
And my problems are so very bland
When compared to this universe so grand
So cheer is mine nonetheless
As all fears really are just baseless

Swan song
Hearing your voice is a sinful escape
It carries me away to a distant cape
Where we both are new and oh so shy
Wondering how, when, if and why
Hoping each day to spend some time
Knowing a look can be divine
It's all right there in your sweet song
And I soak it all in knowing that it's so wrong
But if fantasy is just that
Then surely it's fine - 'else life would be too flat

Sky
Covered in blue with wisps of white
A relaxing time and breath-taking sight
Moments shared with someone so dear
Knowing that it is seldom so clear
A small hand pointing out happiness
Is something that no one should miss

Muse
I want to be your muse
Together creating lyrics you can use
Your brilliance really is inspiring
Your beauty raw and overpowering
I want to get in your mind
To see what secrets I can find
Let me break that pad-locked door
To see your pulsing inner core
I know that you are more than what you seem
Much more than just this dazzling dream

Waaaaahhhhhh!!!!
A crying child
Can drive you wild
After a trying day
All you can say
Is please go to sleep
Or you'll make me weep!

Sigh
What really matters is sometimes hard to describe
When some days you feel completely taken for a ride
Knowing that all things must end
Is not a comfort for a friend
It can be a stressful thing
Waiting for that phone to ring
And wondering if the right effort was made
To escape the slowly encroaching shade
But allowances must be given
As not everyone can be so driven
When some days you feel completely taken for a ride
Knowing that all things must end
Is not a comfort for a friend
It can be a stressful thing
Waiting for that phone to ring
And wondering if the right effort was made
To escape the slowly encroaching shade
But allowances must be given
As not everyone can be so driven

Morning greeting
When darkness slips away
When the stars and moon say good-night
That's when night belongs to day
And to the sunshine falling bright

An instant spent out in the sun
I gained the love of everyone
It shone on me so bright and clear
And brought to mind days most dear
That once, that moment in time and space
I felt compassion for the human race
I saw so clearly loves come and gone
And still my heart sings merrily along
If one wish could ever be mine
It would be to recapture that forgotten time

Choices
I chose this, there is no one else to blame
Now I must play this frustrating game
I cannot fold
For I must hold
My end of the bargain
Or cause much chagrin
And in the end there are things worse
With which I could be cursed
Now I must play this frustrating game
I cannot fold
For I must hold
My end of the bargain
Or cause much chagrin
And in the end there are things worse
With which I could be cursed
Out of time
I have had no time
To make a rhyme
So this little ditty
While not very pretty
Is my humble offering

Pet shop
I once was free
But now a glass cage surrounds me
I used to roam at will
Over rock and craggy hill
Now strange beings stare back at me
And I'm confused by all I see
Can this really be my fate?
Or for me is it still not too late?

Questions
Can the soul turn its back?
Walk away from the one
Whose every fibre matches the burning, noon-day sun?
When you catch a glimpse of fire,
Can anything else take you higher?
What if you are already bound?
Promised so long ago
Will the spirit understand or fight to let go?
Strength of conviction is what we need
Unless the fire we continue to feed
Walk away from the one
Whose every fibre matches the burning, noon-day sun?
When you catch a glimpse of fire,
Can anything else take you higher?
What if you are already bound?
Promised so long ago
Will the spirit understand or fight to let go?
Strength of conviction is what we need
Unless the fire we continue to feed
Kaake
From the high-up perch, surveying the sound
Eyes that bore right through the ground
A jet-black stare that pierces the core
A feigning laugh, what a bleeding bore
The joke's on you mister, can't you see?
I've got wings - so much better to flee
As you stumble and bump around
I'll catch the wind - I'll never be bound!
Only the one who circles higher
Will I allow to call me liar
Until that day, you turn your head
And remember well, what I've just said
Eyes that bore right through the ground
A jet-black stare that pierces the core
A feigning laugh, what a bleeding bore
The joke's on you mister, can't you see?

Sorry again!
I am so sorry that my postings have missed twice in a row now! I have been extremely tired and I actually forgot last night to post a poem. Naturally, that means today I post two! Hope you like them.

Haiku #3
The sky cracked open
Lightening seared the dry, burnt air
As we watched the show

Too old
Here we are at ten past two
Wondering just what the heck to do
Instead of getting our needed rest
We broke bread with the very best
And now the sheets are calling us
Saying we are too old to fuss

Lapse
Sorry about the lapse
It was the air perhaps?
Or maybe I forgot
Because it was too hot!
But the most likely reason
Is this lazy summer season

Imagination
When your hand touches mine
Is it my face you see
Or an exotic beauty
Who winked at you on the street?
But it's okay - two can play at this game
And your guilt eases my own shame
Since my imagination
Is truly my biggest distraction

Too much
Blackness envelopes me
Flashes of light all I see
Clausterphobia closes in
Thoughts of vile and delicious sin
Things aren't always what they seem
But through it all a light will gleam
Catch that thought and hold on tight
Lest you drown and sink from sight

Get Away
In my mind I get away
To where dolphins laugh and we get to play
Where sunshine's plenty and cares are few
Where I'm just me and skies are blue
A place where smokey fires smoulder
And new friends like rubbing shoulders
Where every path is yet untrod
And my horizon is really vast and broad
In my mind I get away
To where dolphins laugh and we get to play

Black Keys
A sinister kid rocked the stage
A booming drum let loose the rage
Ten thousand fans all joined in
Creating a heavy, harmonious din
The base line says black keys are right
And we bathed in an everlasting light

Secretariat
Power and muscle in a sinewy dance
A golden moment and very rare chance
To capture the three, the highest of high
To stake your claim, your piece of the pie
Now your name will forever be known
And through your lineage your legacy shown

Ignore you
I don't want to look at you
Hang with you or talk with you
Silence can be golden
But to each other we are beholden
And you'll bother me until
You get your speaking fill
But in my heart is ice
Despite my demeanor of nice

38
It's my thirty-eighth year
Can't believe that I'm here
The numbers just now all seem to bleed
I remember the threes, fours, fives and tens
And all the other numbers since then
And wonder just how they all disappeared
Every number's been good
As every number should
And now I get to relive all my years
Through my growing, little dears.

Morning
Watching the dew burn off the grass
I know in my heart this moment won't last
It will go and another will come
But never again will it be the same one
So I savour the breeze and fragrant smelling trees
And live right now as I watch the gently waving leaves

Tantrum
Angry tears flood your face
And your screaming fit is a big disgrace
Your strong, strong will will serve you well
But for now we still can tell
You what to do
For you are just one year past two

Canoe time
I spy with my little eye
Two kingfishers and a very large fly
Sitting on a canoe
As the wind whistles through
Enjoying the water
Just mother and daughter
Yes, another silly rhyme - but this time I got help from Tess...

July 4
It was a beautiful day to die
I stepped out of my truck and saw a blue, blue sky
The sun shone hot as only a July orb can do
And I never even saw the car that tore my body in two
Ready I was not
All my plans are now shot
Only 29 short years on the earth
From the moment of my birth
Now my dreams have have disappeared
Since from my body my soul was sheared
But life will go on
Just minus my unique and simple song

Choices
Can chaos be contained?
How about the madness in a brain?
The wilting pride of righteousness
And the crippling pangs of bitterness
Leave marks upon a soul
That slowly corrode any sunny goal
The choice of anger over happiness
Leaves no place for peacefulness
And pushes those away
Whom you most sorely wish would stay

Gone
My muse is gone.
No more getting lost in thought
Now each moment is frought
With tension
The words won't flow
And the world has lost its glow
But only for the moment
I know in time
My muse will shine
And again I'll feel the stream
Until then, I'll struggle just to dream

Fleeting fun
Good friends and a barbeque
Late day sun casting beautiful rays
An impromptu fashion show
And three fairy princesses with faces aglow
Life's little moments so precious and pure
Must be sheltered in the heart's inner core
