Gossip, gossip, gossip
No one wants to stop it
The nasty kind
Is not hard to find
But any gentle words
Must fight to be heard

An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

A song to greet the day
There isn't more to say
I missed my mark
Realized much after dark
So this is a rhyme
For my missed time

Dinner
Above a bright romantic moon
A roots ska beat to make lovers swoon
A heady night amongst like kin
Means an easier time letting others in
A well oiled meal to ease the flow
With fermented drinks brought from below
Laugh now and later we all said
As the errant night has got in our heads

Mist
Why can't we know those secret things
Hidden from our eyes
Those truths so long forgotten
That they're now considered lies
It hurts my brain when I try to see
Beyond what we all can
But some day the veil will lift
And it will be better for every man

Lay off
The words are there for me alone
Don't ask for favors over the phone
When pushed to write a specific verse
The lines all come out jumbled and terse
So let me be to pen my mind
Without pressure of any kind

Insect
A bee is buzzing in my brain
Trying to stop it's maddening refrain
But it's hopped up on all kinds of stress
Making my thoughts a blurry mess
Can't wait to just set it free
I want peace, not this cacophony

Grind
In the heart of every darkness
Are the words all left unsaid
And the memory of those things
That should have been said instead
But now the cares are over
Except for those now left behind
As they must gather the pieces
And continue with this grind
Are the words all left unsaid
And the memory of those things
That should have been said instead
But now the cares are over
Except for those now left behind
As they must gather the pieces
And continue with this grind

Hope
Again the sun's gone down
And I've yet to erase this miserable frown
I've never quite managed yet
To win each and every hand I bet
But in the end I hope and pray
That every sunrise sees a blissful day

MIB
Let's step back and face the truth
That we are definitely not alone
Whether in spirit or in flesh
ET needs no telephone
Young and dumb we are
Believing so strongly that we can be
The only living beings
Found in our galaxy
We are but these tiny specks
Little more than dust
Striving for all that's wrong
While letting our souls turn to rust

Pink
Se-ren-di-pi-ty
Is always good to me
Even when the hill
Is such a bitter pill
Providence comes through
To turn pink what once was blue

Let's all freak out together
What's wrong with going insane
We've only got to weather
This fever in the brain

Icy, icy
To the darling ice princess
You had such a beautiful dress
But your reception was very chilly
It laid bare your wanting personality
And so we stare at the wall
In your frozen-over hall
Knowing that bell had a ring of finality

Whistling
A dream come true, or is it?
No errant friend to visit
An itch to change
A call to range
The possibilities are vast
And the future is coming fast
Holding true is old
And former dreams are cold
My hazy visions
Hold fast the seasons
No errant friend to visit
An itch to change
A call to range
The possibilities are vast
And the future is coming fast
Holding true is old
And former dreams are cold
My hazy visions
Hold fast the seasons

???
Now that the warmth is here
People will break out the beer
The barbeque will blaze
In the balmy summer haze
And we'll all enjoy a cup of good cheer
Not quite a limerick, not quite a poem, not quite good, but all I've got for tonight!

Not long
The count down has began
It sped by as this was so much fun
A year seems nothing now
Not really a mighty vow
Less than a month to have my say
I'm nearly done - hip-hip hooray!

Why?
Two births, two deaths
Two camps, two mind sets
Which one to follow
Which one rings true
Which one is hollow
Which one's for you?
Is there a better example
Of our divide
When the same faith
Can have two sides?

Cleaner
A floral scent to soothe the mind
Is what can help you in a bind
A shiny surface free from dust
Is relaxing you when you want to bust
A spotless space in which to live
Is the best gift you can ever give

Blank
What happens when you have nothing to say?
The poerty gets tossed along the way
The result is a silly rhyme
Just one big waste of time

Stretch
Living on the line
Stretching every dime
Wondering where we are
Hoping to get far
Savouring every moment
While ideas ferment

Tock
The grains of sand went slow
Now they blur as they go
I never did understand
The echoing strike of that hand
But smarten up I did
The truth no longer hid

Fly
Teach me to fly
So I can wing myself away
Give me the wind
For my troubles to alay
Let the wind toss my hair
Feel the sun scorch the air
Look down on the earth
Feel all that it is worth

Yes
Can His blood wash our sins
When we shed these mortal skins
Can His name take us home
When this earth we've seized to roam
Can His breath give us life
When we're done with this endless strife
Let His name be our guide
When in distress we want to hide
Let His path be our own
Until in love we have grown
Let His spirit be our light
In the darkness of our strangling night

Stuck
What to do? What to do?
Who can tell me, I'd love to know
So many paths, so many choices
I'm stuck not knowing which way to go
Nothing easy, nothing quick
Every decision fraught with woe
If I could see around the bend
I'd sleep far sounder on my pillow

Yeah, okay
Let me ignore you
As you are wont to do
Let me turn away
Before you've had your say
Then you'll understand
The feeling of talking to the hand

Tories
Political animal
Your stripes are plain to see
Your arrogance, your nonchalance
Will kill you politically
And then I'll smile

Lady
Lovely lady way up so high
Your ethereal beauty lights the sky
Though men have touched your silvery face
None have marred your gilt and grace
Your secrets kept for years on end
One day revealed to foe and friend
Until that day keep floating free
Creating light for all to see

Shopping
The longest day is very often
A call to patience and a voice to soften
A tear suppressed because of rage
Like a bird that flutters inside her cage
No words to say what's in a soul
Just a frown and glower from inside a hole

To places beyond our dreams
Let's all hop on board
Before we come apart at the seams

Half done
Two towers took the night
Sleep always trying to fight
A tale so old and fraught with fear
But bravery and friendship rouse much cheer
