There was a gulf between us
A chasm wide and deep
Eroded slowly through the years
Created by the sins we keep
But now there is a bridge
Where none appeared before
A structure delicate yet strong
Willed there from our very core
We were young and kindred spirits
Connected easily through song
Dancing to our very own soundtrack
Never thinking things could go wrong
But, we let the years slip by
Intent on living life
Fighting through the peaks and troughs
Honoring vows as man and wife
And then one day we found
That our souls had gone to sleep
Lulled into a numb submission
From wounds silent but going deep
Yet we were meant to be
You know it as I do
Two troopers bound for life
With hearts both bold and true
We'll meet there in the middle
Where we can feel once more
We'll fill the gulf with memories
And let our spirits soar
The music has restarted
Softly, yes, but there
A reminder of the beginning
Of just how much we care
So, hold tight the ride's not over
Not yet as far as I can tell
We have many years before us
So, let us live them well
An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Rekindled!
Winds have fanned the flame
I never thought it could be the same
But it's a better version of the past
Proving togetherness is a solid mast
Warm arms provide a comforting embrace
A secure refuge from this crazy race
Knowing deep down we're in this together
A support, a team, a partner forever
And I thank my stars every day
That fate placed him in my way
No better destiny I can see
Than knowing he stands next to me
I never thought it could be the same
But it's a better version of the past
Proving togetherness is a solid mast
Warm arms provide a comforting embrace
A secure refuge from this crazy race
Knowing deep down we're in this together
A support, a team, a partner forever
And I thank my stars every day

No better destiny I can see

Time is passing by
I couldn't stay away
Listened to your voice again
It pulled on my heart
As it always has
But this time it was with a twist
A reminder of time flying
A gentle push to a familiar face
Not yours but someone with greater power
A friend of long standing
Who's place has never wavered
But it was your voice
That reminded me
Of what I have.
Listened to your voice again
It pulled on my heart
As it always has
But this time it was with a twist
A reminder of time flying
A gentle push to a familiar face
Not yours but someone with greater power
A friend of long standing
Who's place has never wavered
But it was your voice
That reminded me
Of what I have.

Don't let go
Don't let go.
How can you leave now?
When I've laid bare my soul
Grown before your eyes
You've changed me.
I cannot go back
Yet you won't be here
To cheer me on
You're in pain.
But is it still selfish?
I cannot judge
I'm too wrapped up in all that you are
Stay with me.
Physically... not just in my mind
Or plastered across my heart
Or seared into my soul
I love you.
And that will feed my pain
In the years to come
It will always be you
How can you leave now?
When I've laid bare my soul
Grown before your eyes
You've changed me.
I cannot go back
Yet you won't be here
To cheer me on
You're in pain.
But is it still selfish?
I cannot judge
I'm too wrapped up in all that you are
Stay with me.
Physically... not just in my mind
Or plastered across my heart
Or seared into my soul
I love you.
And that will feed my pain
In the years to come
It will always be you

Not a love song
I know your secret pretty boy
The one that haunts your dreams
That dark and lustful passion
Seeping slowly from your seams
Devotion has you calling
Has you down upon your knees
Praying for faith to save you
From doing as you please
A good facade can mask
All the thoughts you try to hide
But your words betray the truth
And the desire built up inside
The one that haunts your dreams
That dark and lustful passion
Seeping slowly from your seams
Devotion has you calling
Has you down upon your knees
Praying for faith to save you
From doing as you please
A good facade can mask
All the thoughts you try to hide
But your words betray the truth
And the desire built up inside

Notice
I can understand the beauty
Of simply checking out
Of leaving the stress behind
Not caring what it's all about
When a soul veers by the wayside
It's often clear to all
That life's little demands
Are what likely caused the fall
But we keep trucking forward
Bending mind and spirit too
To focus on the goodness
To let the light shine right on through
Of simply checking out
Of leaving the stress behind
Not caring what it's all about
When a soul veers by the wayside
It's often clear to all
That life's little demands
Are what likely caused the fall
But we keep trucking forward
Bending mind and spirit too
To focus on the goodness
To let the light shine right on through

Good Friday
You came to us in earnest
To show us right from wrong
You came to give us hope
Proving you were with us all along
But we denied your beauty
The glory of your soul
We simply couldn't handle
The weight of our own role
Now we look and lament
At that fateful time
Knowing that your sacrifice
Was nothing short of sublime
To show us right from wrong
You came to give us hope
Proving you were with us all along
But we denied your beauty
The glory of your soul
We simply couldn't handle
The weight of our own role
Now we look and lament
At that fateful time
Knowing that your sacrifice
Was nothing short of sublime

Love/Life
How can we harness the energy
That is made up of you and even me?
The vibrations that echo from age to age
Witnessing lifetimes of happiness and rage?
From the ether we have come down
To learn to live or sink and drown
Now with the thought that we are love
We can return to our homes above
That is made up of you and even me?
The vibrations that echo from age to age
Witnessing lifetimes of happiness and rage?
From the ether we have come down
To learn to live or sink and drown
Now with the thought that we are love
We can return to our homes above

Good times
Family, friends, laughter and wine
Always make an evening shine
Knowing that you're surrounded by love
Is the biggest gift from up above
Sharing with those most dear
Makes the important things very clear
Always make an evening shine
Knowing that you're surrounded by love
Is the biggest gift from up above
Sharing with those most dear
Makes the important things very clear

Cracker-jack!
I love the way you make me laugh
A song, a dance, a whine
You voice a cracker-jack whirly-gig
Your spirit transcendent and sublime
Watching you skip along the path
A joy for all to see
As through your freedom we find our joy
A release from anxiety
A song, a dance, a whine
You voice a cracker-jack whirly-gig
Your spirit transcendent and sublime
Watching you skip along the path
A joy for all to see
As through your freedom we find our joy
A release from anxiety

External heart
Come close to me my little heart
And beat inside my hand
As you once did inside of me
Which was so very grand
Now you're part of this bigger world
And we just tag along
To shelter you from showers and rain
So you can see & live no wrong
And beat inside my hand
As you once did inside of me
Which was so very grand
Now you're part of this bigger world
And we just tag along
To shelter you from showers and rain
So you can see & live no wrong

Minstrel
Sing to me softly minstrel mine
Check the tears that slowly shine
Clear the stars from the deepening sky
And answer me truthfully the greatest Why?
Is it to stand on one's two feet
A battle grand in mind to beat
A gauntlet run to learn the few
Those lessons that will make us new
Help us bridge the schism deep
That keeps us up and makes us weep
Sing to us softly of times gone by
When we were young and not prone to cry
Guide us through to the other end
So we can meet again, my friend
Your soothing song a lullaby
That heals our soul and answers Why.
Check the tears that slowly shine
Clear the stars from the deepening sky
And answer me truthfully the greatest Why?
Is it to stand on one's two feet
A battle grand in mind to beat
A gauntlet run to learn the few

Questions
Can the soul turn its back?
Walk away from the one
Whose every fibre matches the burning, noon-day sun?
When you catch a glimpse of fire,
Can anything else take you higher?
What if you are already bound?
Promised so long ago
Will the spirit understand or fight to let go?
Strength of conviction is what we need
Unless the fire we continue to feed
Walk away from the one
Whose every fibre matches the burning, noon-day sun?
When you catch a glimpse of fire,
Can anything else take you higher?
What if you are already bound?
Promised so long ago
Will the spirit understand or fight to let go?
Strength of conviction is what we need
Unless the fire we continue to feed
