An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Poet Laureate
Through your quill you had so much to say
A master voice in all things grand
Writ down for the ages in loving hand
Now home you've gone your sleep you've earned
Leaving us far better, wiser and learned

Stop the noise
Too much confusion
Too many things going on
Not enough voice
Not enough will power
Not enough time for this song

Pathways
A gentle path to follow
But then I lost my way
And felt my soul get hollow
I'm doing my best to remember
Just how I found that way
But I've strayed so far that now
All paths look mostly grey

Didn't want to hear that
It's then so very hard to find
A quiet, resting spot
Away from all the rot
To fend of irrational fears
Can take too many years

Perfect blend
Need you, want you, but in the end
Your caffeine kick is my foe
As you cause my body too much woe!

Fire in the Wood
Watch the sparks fly
Watch the fire flame out
Watch the ash darken the sky
We've managed the forests our way
We've squelched all natural burn
We've imposed what we want
We've forgotten that we must learn
The woods have their own language
The woods have their own life
The woods have their own reckoning
The woods have their own strife

Careful what you say
Rip and shred or mend and heal
We take for granted what we say
In anger, pain or carelessness
Yet reflecting back on who we are
You realize that words
Can leave a bitter scar

Remembering tomorrow
Then waking up would be a dream
In many ways that's what we live
When looking around at what we give
This haze of thought in which we dwell
Is far from those golden shores above
Where each day is brighter than any summer
And the bluest sky is matched only by the river
From what people remember and mystics glimpse
We can surely understand
That we're here to learn about our souls
To accomplish our own very personal goals

Good times
Always make an evening shine
Knowing that you're surrounded by love
Is the biggest gift from up above
Sharing with those most dear
Makes the important things very clear

Hang on
That you will always have a say
If even just in matters small
You can truly have it all
Just remember who you truly are
And life will certainly lead you far

Orphan Girl
Knowing that you once had it all
But choosing always the meanest route
Dwelling within the refuse shute
Making choices you know will fail
Lying, cheating, hoping for bail
Your learning curve stunted now
Your life on earth a shattered vow
Yet through it all you're still loved
As long as you accept God above

Disgust
After reading stories of people deranged
A cruel slice of life exposed
Of brutality and inhumanity deposed
Nothing short of evil awaits
When people forget the pearly gates

Knowing when
Are what it's all about
Seeing through the dust
Helps clear the cobwebs out
And now with setting sun
And the falling dusk of night
We look to entertainment
For a little respite

Almost there
Can weaken knees when done right
That assurance of youth
And the look of possibility
Seeing the emerging man
Beneath the untainted eyes and still smooth face
The bloom that lasts for just a while
Compelling, engaging and repulsive
Stubble-less and pink lipped
Taught muscles and firm skin
On the verge of maturity
Just almost committed
Nearly ready to be a dad
The future CEO
All just below the surface
Waiting to harden into a man
A delight for jaded eyes

New school year
Wondering what the future holds
Anticipation as each day unfolds
This one is especially looking up
A new beginning for this school year
Makes this start especially dear

Slog
Sometimes I feel I've had enough
Wish there were more leisurely days
To pass the time in a comfortable haze
Knowing that this is my lot
Makes me treasure all I've got

Morning
Awash in quiet glow
That's when the soul finds peace
With everything we know
No better understanding
Than what we see and feel
When gazing at the dew drops
Lit by sunlight's bands of steel
In the earliest morning hours
Before the world awakes
You can lose yourself in knowing
There can be no higher stakes

Replacement phone
Getting a deal is proving tough
We want a lot for little dough
As cash, these days, flows very slow
:P

Learning lessons
Is all it takes to be heard
Just putting out what's on your mind
Is the easiest way of not living blind
We have to take and look and feel
But in the end, nothing seems real
An existential experiment
To learn just why we have been sent

Hopeful
And I always wonder why
But now I know the grief you felt
When words I used left a deep, red welt
I'm hoping that these days will pass
That the future will be just green, green, grass
With a relationship better built on trust
Instead of a broken thing all covered in rust
A healthy bond between parent and child
A sincere hope that you'll turn out mild

Calories
Expanding waistbands too
In this world of plenty
What are we to do?

Talk to us
Letting you know this is not a good start
Finding your way is a must, we know
But baby steps is the way to go
Don't cut us out just yet we ask
It makes parenting a harder task

Burst of fun
A merry dance of letters and rum
A fine tuned jig of quips and quotes
That's all I have, so that's all she wrote!

Silver-tongue
Too little heart is what makes you small
Having a child to further your mission
It the very height of callous ambition
No virtue do you have anymore
In fact, most would consider you a wh*re

Lake rhyme
With nothing to do
Is nothing new
But still true blue

Phone groan
Unlocking a phone is no way to go
Too much trouble and too much worry
Over something not worth the hurry
Let's take our time to find the one
That will be a better bundle of fun
Angry
Gone the smiles and laughter too
Scowl and burn is all you do
Never happy anymore
And yet you keep on wanting more
It's getting hard to absorb it all
It's slowly building a dense wall
