A poem a day to keep brain rot away

Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!

May 3rd, 2012

Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Bend

We're starting all again
A new found lively friend
Never thinking of when
We had a straw to bend

Tick, tick... Tick

The quality of this rhyme
Reflects my lack of time
It all boils down to this
Five minutes of downtime bliss

Go, go, go

One step, two step, three step, four
We all go round then round some more
Let's not stop we'll break the speed
Then disappear for lack of need
Now and then we all must glide
Or seize our fear and turn and hide

I Know

As we grow
The more me know
But as we age
We become sage

Couplet

Friends forever, friends for life
Except, of course, when there's strife

Play it, Sam

"It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory"

No truer words were spoken
Or as in this case were sung
Glorious old ideals
Around which hearts were wrung
So close your eyes and sigh
Your tears will wash the dust
And Casablanca will come calling
As all newer versions rust

Velvet

Let me sink into your skin
Feel your voice a velvet sin
Gather up in flowered words
Understanding is what's heard
Knowing you to be a ghost
A stolen fantasy at most
Is what makes this a sane escape
A well-used, well-loved tape

Fluff

No time
To make a rhyme
Just one day
It's not a crime

Grown up

Silly me to think we're free
No such thing if you want harmony
Swing together from dusk to dawn
Then cry when no one likes your song
When will they see what we wish?
Only when they're eating from our dish

Speed

Another day has run away
No time to stop
No time to play
Maybe tomorrow we'll find some time
To just relax and just unwind
*Sigh*

Passing dream

Lost in a candy coated dream
Where no one is exactly who they seem
All strangers passing near and far
Heaving burdens of who they are
Wondering when and how and where
They seem to have all ended up there
But in the end we must agree
If we try we can spend time pleasantly

Time fly

Come on home
We're soon, soon grown
Before you know
Our tails we'll show
So use these days
In memorable ways

Tourney 1

Sunburst here and another one there
The thrill of summer's in the air
A goal let in and ten others shut out
Boy and girls run wild about
We all know when games begin
That keeping score is a major sin

I spI

I spy with my little eye
A tinker, a tailor, a soldier and spy
A muddle mush of celluloid
Carrying names much deployed
But wonderfully dense and lush too
Proving real worth is a strange, strange brew

Better

Better to keep silent
When words are just too sharp
Better to be quiet
When tempers are running cross
Better to escape
When reality's just too much

Young blood

Let's all run together to the centre of the field
Where we'll display for everyone
And prove that we won't yield
We'll run and kick and play
Carrying the ball across the way
One day we'll find the net
On that you can certainly bet!

Song

A tiny song to remind us
It won't be long before they leave
No looking back
It won't stop the future
Just hang tight to every moment
And love all the little ones

Auto-bot

Aaahhh, another ride off into the night
So tired now, no strength left to fight
What makes them think that this is fair
What makes them think that we won't care
No thought to others just what is mine
We'll screw you over so we can shine

Holes

Summer's heat can burn
But the fire within will yearn
To quench the rapid flare
We must do what we dare
Or watch while rays sear souls
While we crumble into dark holes

Whirlwind

Let's pick you up and go from here
A whirlwind trip of two much freer
Let's talk and talk and laugh and learn
And sit under the sun until we burn

True

Speak not unless freely
Of all your heart holds dear
If you suppose I'm not worthy
It will bring me fast to tear

?

Let's all forget to play
Forget the end of day
Let's just wallow
Until it's tough to swallow
Then turn around once more
And walk right out that door

Spring

Ahh, the quirky quests of spring
When all young hearts do sing
The air ripe with floral scents
And minds filled with innocence
These days are worth their weight in gold
As of them so many tales are told

Fly

Someone is watching
This I know
Someone is planning
How I grow
Each step I take is a pleasure
Each mistake a guarded treasure
From here I find out how and why
From here is where I learn to fly

Bro

How many arrows can you dodge
Before one finds its mark
How many hearts can you break
Before being trapped in the dark

If life is more than one long sigh
Then you have to really wonder why
Such actions continue blazing through
With grief and regret the result of what you do

Choosing

Here we go round the mulberry bush
When there's bad news you have to push
All feeling aside and use your head
Knowing each time a small part's dead
But all in the end we all can see
Except for he who acts most cowardly
Turning away from what we know
Is how the blackness continues to grow

Thoughts

In youth we stand together
Grown we stand alone
Sometimes it gets reversed
When it does it cuts to the bone

Nightfall

The ground's still wet
The sun has set
And all that's green will glow

The crickets call
The errant stars fall
While the shadows start to show
