Oh you stupid, stupid girl!
Can't you see what's going on?
A momentary shiver
Turn around and it's all gone.
Remember these words I say
You'll think back on this I know
When life's hard and bitter winds
Have had their time to blow
One day you'll understand
The folly of your youth
And wonder with regret
How you missed the deeper truth
Maybe it's your age
Your young-ness in heart and soul
That's leading you astray
So far from life's ultimate goal.
An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Tipping
If you could feel my heart right now
You'd feel the pieces all asunder
Breaking from this heavy weight
All this stress that I am under
I know that you cannot see
The position I am in
All you know is your own nose
And your world-welcoming grin
I try to hold myself in tight
Looking for the silver lining
Telling myself the earth will turn
And the sun will keep on shining
You'd feel the pieces all asunder
Breaking from this heavy weight
All this stress that I am under
I know that you cannot see
The position I am in
All you know is your own nose
And your world-welcoming grin
I try to hold myself in tight
Looking for the silver lining
Telling myself the earth will turn
And the sun will keep on shining

Talking, talking
Why must this be so difficult
Wouldn't it be so much easier?
To talk it out and have our say
Instead of just getting angrier?
Put down the gadget and relate to us
You'll see that we do care
All we want is a harmonious home
In which we all can share
Wouldn't it be so much easier?
To talk it out and have our say
Instead of just getting angrier?
Put down the gadget and relate to us
You'll see that we do care
All we want is a harmonious home
In which we all can share

One step out
Living in a state of fear
Wondering what is next
Hoping for the future
Hoping for what's best
But one among us is cleaving
Going off on their own way
Leaving the comforts of home
And having their own say
Wondering what is next
Hoping for the future
Hoping for what's best
But one among us is cleaving
Going off on their own way
Leaving the comforts of home
And having their own say

Not Just Yet
Give me a reason to let you go
And I'll give you ten for why I say "no"
The day will come, of this I'm sure
But when it does, I'll know the allure
I'll see the strength written behind your eyes
I'll see the path stretching long & wise
Until then, I grant the favor of my past
So your future success is sure to last
Only when I see these signs
I'll know we've crossed those blurry lines
Where we still tread between old and new
Wondering how and what to do
So, hold on for now, my clever one
The time will come for you to run
And then I won't stand in your way
You'll have my blessing & the thoughts I pray
And I'll give you ten for why I say "no"
The day will come, of this I'm sure
But when it does, I'll know the allure

Classes
Eight days I was hopeful
Eight days ago I saw light
Today the rain is falling
And there's no end in sight
I'm hoping very hard
That this time will quickly pass
I'm praying from my soul
For an easier life in class

And there's no end in sight
I'm hoping very hard
That this time will quickly pass
I'm praying from my soul
For an easier life in class

Spring
Hopeful now and optimistic too
All because the light is returning to you
The darkness is receding, fading fast into the night
Constant prayers will now keep that void from sight
Spring is another consolation to our aching souls
For the sunshine and the rain can fill any hole
All because the light is returning to you
The darkness is receding, fading fast into the night
Constant prayers will now keep that void from sight
Spring is another consolation to our aching souls
For the sunshine and the rain can fill any hole

Paths
The light has changed in our world
It's now got a tinted swirl
No longer clear we have to strain
To see clearly through the fog and rain
Our path twisting more than enough
Making progress slow and rough
We know that there is a brighter side
We just have to make it up the hill before we glide

Moving forward
Days of calm have returned
But the scars are still fresh from the burn
It's a new way of looking now at our life
One where we mitigate and manage strife
Although the line has slacked a bit
We're now vigilant lest we again get hit
I know I've been rather slack with posting recently. We've been managing a lot of stress and some life-altering situations. Things are starting to return to a more normal pace and hopefully I'll be able to pick up again where I left off.

Hope
A need to break free
To understand what's outside of me
A need to escape far from here
Where there's no shame or even fear
A need to embrace all that's right
To seek refuge in the divine light
To understand what's outside of me
A need to escape far from here
Where there's no shame or even fear
A need to embrace all that's right
To seek refuge in the divine light

Heartache
I'm tugging at the seams
Trying to keep it all together
Why couldn't the problems be
Those I was prepared for?
Boys and drugs and music too
But no, it's something all brand new
No road map here to help us out
We're in the dark wondering what it's all about
Trying to keep it all together
Why couldn't the problems be
Those I was prepared for?
Boys and drugs and music too
But no, it's something all brand new
No road map here to help us out
We're in the dark wondering what it's all about

Teen Life
Sitting on a seesaw of emotional distress
Wondering if the day will bring release or stress
Riding high the world is bright, all shining sun and joy
But the bottom is filled with darkness, a soul-less blackened void
To find the equilibrium, the middle point of mind
Is this life's great journey, a path that's hard to find

Communicating Adolesence
I've lost count of how many ways
I've tried to get through to you
I held on to a belief that I would know
But I've realized now that it was silly
To assume that I'd be able to connect
When things have changes so greatly
But in the end you are still you
And one day you'll understand
I've tried to get through to you
I held on to a belief that I would know
But I've realized now that it was silly
To assume that I'd be able to connect
When things have changes so greatly
But in the end you are still you
And one day you'll understand

Hopeful
I sometimes want to cry
And I always wonder why
But now I know the grief you felt
When words I used left a deep, red welt
I'm hoping that these days will pass
That the future will be just green, green, grass
With a relationship better built on trust
Instead of a broken thing all covered in rust
A healthy bond between parent and child
A sincere hope that you'll turn out mild
And I always wonder why
But now I know the grief you felt
When words I used left a deep, red welt
I'm hoping that these days will pass
That the future will be just green, green, grass
With a relationship better built on trust
Instead of a broken thing all covered in rust

A sincere hope that you'll turn out mild

Influence
Boy, you're just growing up so fast
Childhood, we thought, was going to last
But boys and looks are now your thing
Texting, replacing the telephone's ring
We hoped to have you just a while longer
To mold & guide you, to make you stronger
But the world, it seems, had other plans
It's the media & friends now holding your hands

Talk to us
Trying to get through to your heart
Letting you know this is not a good start
Finding your way is a must, we know
But baby steps is the way to go
Don't cut us out just yet we ask
It makes parenting a harder task
Letting you know this is not a good start
Finding your way is a must, we know
But baby steps is the way to go
Don't cut us out just yet we ask
It makes parenting a harder task

Eat! Eat!
What do you do when the enemy stares back at you?
When the face you hate, is the one God made
Can you turn the mind?
Find a better place?
And what do you do when that person's not you?
When the face you love, is the one you made
Can you help turn that mind?
Find a better place?
When the face you hate, is the one God made
Can you turn the mind?
Find a better place?
And what do you do when that person's not you?
When the face you love, is the one you made
Can you help turn that mind?
Find a better place?
