A pounding in my veins
Leaves me breathless and aware
Of the visceral beat inside me
The sound coursing through the air
A tempo made to measure
A driving beat made real
A movement I can't smother
For it's what I live and feel
Pushed beyond my limits
Sweat beading on my brow
Lost within the measures
I've finally understood how
And now the door is open
And I'm walking tall and proud
I can truly be called "Master"
I've thrown off my heavy shroud
You meant to tame my spirit
Tried to break my inherent will
But in the end your twisted madness
Was a sugar-coated pill
An attempt to write a poem a day for a whole year... no guarantees on quality - just quantity!
A poem a day to keep brain rot away
Join me as I attempt to create a poem a day... whether awesome, bawdy, corny, dreadful, entertaining, fabulous, gross or hilariously hokey, I will try to string together everything from couplets to limericks - just for the fun of fiddling with words!
May 3rd, 2012
Today is quite a special day. I have actually reached the one year mark. I posted my first poem on May 3rd, 2011. I have had a great time doing this. It has basically become a habit and I don’t really want to stop. So, I am going to continue this thread because I have enjoyed it so much. It’s true that most of the poems were terrible. Some were good (or at least I thought so!) but mostly they were a reflection of something I either saw that day, thought of, felt or heard. In any case, I hope you have enjoyed the ride as much as I have. Here’s to letting the word out – come what may!

Intent
I left a blank space waiting
To be filled at a future date
A space just white and calling
Like a clean and empty plate
I've now a twisted sense to share
Of motions gone awry
Of intent and fate ensnared
Leaving a coiled and knotted lie
To be filled at a future date
A space just white and calling
Like a clean and empty plate
I've now a twisted sense to share
Of motions gone awry
Of intent and fate ensnared
Leaving a coiled and knotted lie

A-lone
A-drifting we are going
A-drifting through a sea
Of mermaid tales and foam
Of little bits of you and me
A-sailing we are going
A-sailing through a gale
Of blustery winds and rain
Of occasional pelts of hail
A-searching we are going
A-searching through a mist
Of broken thoughts and promises
Of a long and lonely tryst
A-drifting through a sea
Of mermaid tales and foam
Of little bits of you and me
A-sailing we are going
A-sailing through a gale
Of blustery winds and rain
Of occasional pelts of hail
A-searching we are going
A-searching through a mist
Of broken thoughts and promises
Of a long and lonely tryst

Choices, choices, choices
Eliminate your stress
Let your soul feel only joy
As else your eyes won't see
This is fact, not a cruel ploy
You've chosen this silly path
Picked long before you came
Seeking some such wisdom
Eschewing wealth and fame
Now when darkness is falling
And the world is lit from within
You know that there's a reason
So, you must face it with a grin
Let your soul feel only joy
As else your eyes won't see
This is fact, not a cruel ploy
You've chosen this silly path
Picked long before you came
Seeking some such wisdom
Eschewing wealth and fame
Now when darkness is falling
And the world is lit from within
You know that there's a reason
So, you must face it with a grin

Circles 2015
What you're saying is wrong
You know this to be true
But your words are short not long
And you're not giving the child her due
Face up to what you're doing
Don't hide behind a wall
Expose all facts to the clearing
Because you know we're going to call
You know this to be true
But your words are short not long
And you're not giving the child her due
Face up to what you're doing
Don't hide behind a wall
Expose all facts to the clearing
Because you know we're going to call

Stuck....
I'm not motivated
I'm just staring at my screen
Hoping that I'll find
A way to say just what I mean
I'm just staring at my screen
Hoping that I'll find
A way to say just what I mean

Tipping
If you could feel my heart right now
You'd feel the pieces all asunder
Breaking from this heavy weight
All this stress that I am under
I know that you cannot see
The position I am in
All you know is your own nose
And your world-welcoming grin
I try to hold myself in tight
Looking for the silver lining
Telling myself the earth will turn
And the sun will keep on shining
You'd feel the pieces all asunder
Breaking from this heavy weight
All this stress that I am under
I know that you cannot see
The position I am in
All you know is your own nose
And your world-welcoming grin
I try to hold myself in tight
Looking for the silver lining
Telling myself the earth will turn
And the sun will keep on shining

Not a love song
I know your secret pretty boy
The one that haunts your dreams
That dark and lustful passion
Seeping slowly from your seams
Devotion has you calling
Has you down upon your knees
Praying for faith to save you
From doing as you please
A good facade can mask
All the thoughts you try to hide
But your words betray the truth
And the desire built up inside
The one that haunts your dreams
That dark and lustful passion
Seeping slowly from your seams
Devotion has you calling
Has you down upon your knees
Praying for faith to save you
From doing as you please
A good facade can mask
All the thoughts you try to hide
But your words betray the truth
And the desire built up inside

Late afternoon
Sunlight falling gently
on my ivory coverlet
Stirring the dust motes into action
helping me to forget
The stillness broken only
But the persistent little sound
Of a young voice calling to me
Asking for a moment to be crowned
on my ivory coverlet
Stirring the dust motes into action
helping me to forget
The stillness broken only
But the persistent little sound
Of a young voice calling to me
Asking for a moment to be crowned

Young Goodman Brown
My bird you sang again tonight
And my heart is now in soaring flight
But dark and troubled was your song
Of whether hearts are safe from wrong
Are you exploring your own inner mind
Wondering what there you are to find?
Or is this a test of what you see
Of human weakness and frailty?
Whatever the source of your newest verse
May this blessing shield you from any curse
And my heart is now in soaring flight
But dark and troubled was your song
Of whether hearts are safe from wrong
Are you exploring your own inner mind
Wondering what there you are to find?
Or is this a test of what you see
Of human weakness and frailty?
Whatever the source of your newest verse
May this blessing shield you from any curse
